  • They're called hazards for a reason

So Friday night I'm on my way home. My drive takes me most of the way on a three lane, county highway, with lights, and entrances and exits to various strip malls and businesses. Speed limit is 50, but you can do 60 without consequences

So I'm almost at the point where I turn off, and up ahead I see some nimrod, parked mostly on the "shoulder" aka off the road, but still slightly in the right lane, AND he's standing there, IN the road, with a gas can in his hand. Ok, fine, you run out of gas, and can't make it completely off the road? but how about putting your HAZARD lights on - esp since as you came upon it, it was just up a slight hill. I was in that lane since i turn off shortly thereafter, and thankfully, i was able to quickly shift lanes, but really? Unless he was wanting to go splat on the road.

It amazes me how many people have no idea how dangerous roads are - and how many don't have any form of high viz jacket in the boot/trunk of their car so that they're a little safer.
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

You know, for the first time I have an inkling why Subaru put the gas filler on the passenger side: so if I run out of gas on the road somewhere, I can put it in the tank without my ass hanging out in traffic. I've been wondering that for years now.

(Or it could just be that they designed the Forester, which was originally a JDM car for many years before they exported it to the USA, with the gas filler on what was the driver's side in the home country and didn't want to be bothered to change it for the LHD market. I dunno.)
