  • Wrong side buddy!

BG: My mom lives in a "gated" community - I use the term loosely, since the only gates are in the front and back, but pretty much anyone could walk in, or get in through the gates, and wander around. As you go in, there's a gatehouse, and 2 lanes. Right lane is for residents, and there's a key pad next to the gatehouse, which, when the correct code is entered, enables the arm of the gate, furhter up.

Left side is for visitors, and that gate arm is controlled manually by the guard, once you are verified etc.

So Mom and I are coming back, and we come in at the same time as a minivan. We go to teh right, and he to the left, but both of us end up getting to our respective gates about the same time.

However, the van speeds up, and cuts over in FRONT of us, and goes through on the right, and then mom and I went, and we hear CLUNK. which was the arm of the gate coming back DOWN onto her wheelchair car topper. We realized after, the gate goes up, senses ONE car, and then automatically goes down. And since this butthead cut over in front of us, and went right, the gate thought it was the car who punched the code, and lowered as it should have.

THankfully, that topper is toast, and mom is awaiting a new one, so no damage, but really? I told her if he had done damage, we would have followed him home and given him what for.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't realize he needed to stay on HIS side, and neither did we. But now I put the code in until the car ahead of me has gone, and the gate has come back down.

Did the guard send someone after him? That's a security breach right there!

And yeah, those gates sense one car at a time. Hubs broke a gate at work once when a firetruck and ambulance came through. He hit the button to raise the gate for the fire truck, but didn't realize he needed to hold it down to keep it open for the ambulance. The ambulance, per their training, just smashed through. Fortunately, they buy the gate arms in bulk for that purpose.

No, since he had been allowed through by the guard. He just cut over to the other side, where we were heading, rather than going in on the left side, where the guard had raised the gate for him. we were both going slowly, but mom and I were like WTF? i guess he didn't understand how the gates, etc. worki.

Hubs could write a book on the number of stories of people who don't get the gates. I keep trying to get him to post more on here. Some people are just really dumb.

we didn't even realize it either, until we heard "CLUNK" but now we know.
