  • But it's my routine day to go out!

Story relayed to me by a former co-worker who still works at Awful-mart. A couple weeks ago their county was under a level 3 snow emergency (that means stay home or you get a ticket). Awful-mart was still open but with an extreme skeleton crew (like 5 or 6 people working).

My friend tells me the store is dead although they did have quite a few elderly customers that morning and every single one of them was cranky. One in particular was ranting and raving because she got a ticket for being out and also raving because her hair salon was closed and the laundromat was closed. And what does she buy at awful-mart? One greeting card. SMH

    Similar story, although not snow-related

My store is open until midnight Christmas Eve and reopens at 8am Christmas Day. All of us have to work Christmas Eve, and most of us have to work Christmas Day as well. I get that, we're a drugstore - people get sick, even if it's a holiday. But really this woman was just unbelievable ..

It's midnight Christmas Eve. I am locking the doors, she runs up screaming "I HAVE to get in!!!!!!!!! It's an EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I tell her we're closed, cue the tears "please, it's LIFE OR DEATH please please please". Manager tells me to let her in. Now to her credit, she runs straight to the product she needs and runs right back to the register - so elapsed time is like 2 minutes.

What was this "LIFE OR DEATH" product that she needed? Was it iinsulin? NO Was it a rescue inhaler? NO Was it Benadryl for an allergic reaction? NO It was ....

    Wait for it .....

    Wait for it .....

    A pregnancy test!

Now, it's been a long time since I could get pregnant, but I'm pretty sure that: A) if you think you're pregnant, there's a pretty good likelihood you are, and B) if you're pregnant tonight, you're STILL gonna be pregnant tomorrow. How is this a "LIFE OR DEATH" situation that means you need to keep me from leaving on time to spend the little time I have until the next shift with my family???????????????

and C) if you're far enough along (about 2 weeks - ie. when you miss your period) that a pregnancy test will actually work, it's too late for the emergency contraception pills already. So whatever you want to do with it, the decision *can* wait another couple of days.

Life or death? It's not THAT bad, more like 18 years.
