  • Pulling through in parking spaces

Inspired by today's Retail comic strip.

Is this something you do? I have to admit it is, but I've never inadvertently taken a spot somebody on the other side was waiting for. I will try to be more considerate in the future.

The only time I pull through is when I know there is no one else around. I always make sure that no one else wanted the spot I pulled into.

I do it all the time, when no one is around.

I have, however, blocked someone from doing so - she cut me off several times on the drive in to work, so I reversed into the spot before she could pull around to it.

EDIT: the one time I did have someone waiting on the other side, I reversed back to let them take the spot

Sure do. I avoid doing it in lots with angled spaces intended to create one-way traffic though.

I only pull through if I can see there's no one else waiting for it. Or if there are plenty of other empty spaces available.

I do this all the time. But if I see someone was waiting to pull into the spot, I'll back up.

I prefer to do so if it's an option (no one else waiting for the forward space, etc.), since I dislike backing up.

Usually if there is enough room to pull through (two spots open) the lot is not busy enough for someone to be waiting. I have no problem walking, so I'll drive way out and it's not an issue. At my school, pretty much everyone rolling in for the first class of the day pulls through.

Only if there isn't someone waiting. I've had people cut me off like that in lots before and I HATE it when that happens!

Also there's one particular store that has the one-way lanes with angled spots (which I avoid because traffic there is a mess anyway), and more than once I've come head-on with someone who pulled through and is going the wrong-way down the aisle. And they're not wide enough for two cars to pass, either. And they usually have the gall to glare at ME for it, too.

I've had people try to do that and get all pissy because I wouldn't back out and let them pull through. I took pictures with my phone, making sure the other driver saw me. She went inside and complained to the store manager. The baffled look on his face was priceless!

I drive a big truck in a place where the parking lots aren't designed for them. Which is odd because over 70% of the vehicles on the road in this province are trucks. I pull thru when I can, simply so that my front end or back end don't stick out into to aisles and possibly get hit by the idiots in the parking lots, which I've seen happen more than once. However, I don't mind walking so I do it on the outer edges of the parking lot.

Yep, me too. I had a guy follow me into the grocery store calling me names because apparently he 'needs' 2 spaces to park his penis extension giant jacked up pickup truck.

I think she thought he was going to make me move. You could tell he just wanted to tell her to fuck off sooo bad!

Many years ago during Christmas, I witnessed this happen. At the exact same time, a woman in a minivan, and a guy in a truck pulled into opposite stalls. The woman was moving faster, and put the nose of her minivan into the truck's spot, and she started pointing and yelling that she wanted to park in his spot so she could pull through. The guy was having none of that - and he motioned for her to back up a foot or two. She proceeded to lean on her horn and scream out the window that she "always" gets a pull-through and that he should back out and let her through, and that her time was precious and how dare he make her wait . After several minutes of this, he leans hs seat back, puts his feet up on the dashboard and yells out "Lady, I've got all the time in the world!" I didn't stay to see how it ended, but I hope she finally pulled back so he could park.
