Okay so 4 way lighted intersection. I'm going straight and the car beside me is turning left. Off to my right is a car in the left-turn lane who comes to a stop at his red. We get our green light/arrow and both me and the car beside me begin to move forward.
Out of nowhere, a car comes careening down the road to the right. He cuts around the guy waiting at the light and blows through the intersection making a left. He had to have been going at least 50 mph because he just wasn't there there one second and then suddenly he was (speed limit through here is 35).
Both myself and the guy next to me have to slam on our brakes as he cut us both off. I saw him in enough time but he came probably within about a foot of hitting the other guy.
Just think, we only had enough time to stop because we were just starting to move after the light changed. If I'd been coming up at a solid green and going 35 mph, I would not have had time to stop.
