  • Blind Curve? SLOW DOWN.

I was stopped at a T intersection (on the trunk of the T). I looked right, I can only see a very short distance down that side because not only is it a blind curve for people coming around, but it's the down slope of a hill!

    Nothing.

Look left. Can see a very good distance down that way.

    Cars way far away.

Look right again because again, short distance and I didn't want someone popping up on me.

    Nothing.

Begin to pull out going left.

BAM! BIG ASS GOLDEN SUV comes PEELING around the blind turn corner and by the time I was entering her lane she was pretty much on top of me.

Old lady with too much make up and poorly dyed hair slams her breaks as I did, and proceeds to call me the asshole.

Me: Lady, how fucking FAST were you going to be able to be ON TOP of me from out of my view line? Loki-fucking-Laufeyson, slow the FUCK down on a blind curve or you WILL take someone out!

No collision, but seriously, good thing I was staring to my right or she would've rammed me right down.

I understand I'm supposed to yield, but damnit people going around a MARKED blind curve need to give the people on the side road time to register they are there so they CAN yield.

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

I've had a similar issue... I've started having to drive on a two lane highway with a speed limit of 55 mph. In one spot the speed reduces to 45. This is where I need to make my turn. I turn my signal on way early and start slowing down. People will ride my bumper, or jump over into the oncoming lane just to avoid slowing down. And the kicker? I'm turning into a SCHOOL.

    I'll add to this:

Blind Curve? STAY IN YOUR LANE!

Growing up my street was very twisty with no shoulders, and various steep drop offs. There was a 90 degree turn with a very low posted speed limit (like 15 mph) at the bottom of a short incline. Instead of *breaking* down that incline and going a safe speed around the blind corner, people would speed down and cut the corner. So I'd be almost hit head on. I'll admit, I was probably going faster than I should have. Fair enough. I was 16-18 years old at that time, and it was the street I learned to drive on. Not an excuse, not saying it was a good choice, but at least I stayed in my lane! (there was no intersection, just the corner)

Not a blind curve, but when I come to work on way, there's a traffic light, and just through it, the driveway to my building on the right.. I can't really signal while at the light since people will honk thinking i'm not making the allowed right on red. So as soon as I begin to move through, i signal right, but I cannot tell you how many times someone has been on my ass, and when i slow down further to turn, they zoom around me into the other lane.

Instead of *breaking* down that incline...
        *braking

"Breaking" is what happens to your bumper (and possibly your face!) if you don't do some BRAKING before encountering that car going the other way...
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers
