  • Idiot Driver

So I was walking around doing the Pokemon GO for my mom and I had to cross a miner road, big enough to have a light small enough that one way of the light is 5 minutes long while the other is the standard 60 seconds.

I get there right when it it cycles to the 60 second part of the light but since I need to cross the direction available with the 5 minute part I wait for the light to change.

Light changes, cross walk light turns on and I started to cross. I'm just past the left turn lane in to the last 1/3 of the distance, and mind you I am looking up as I walk cause One: not stupid and two: I was out of balls to begin with so looking at the phone would be worthless and there are 2 street lights plus some lights from the near by fire station plus I have the right of way. Basically, I'm 2/3s of the way across past the point of no return brightly lite and have the right of way.

So out of no where this giant white truck suddenly comes up making a right hand turn at full speed and stops just 1 foot away from hitting me. Again, I have the right of way. Since theres noway for him to *legally* turn until I'm on the other side I don't stop walking but I do shoot him a dirty look and call him an idiot (tinted window going with the sexist perspective of big ass truck=man) and keep on walking.

This is apparently not good enough as the truck decides to pull out and finish his turn INTO THE LEFT TURN LANE verging in to the opposing traffic lane. He never honked at me, didn't flash his lights, didn't yell at me or anything but he was a moron.

Random question. Miner road? Is it a big street which goes to a mine? I can picture what happened without this information, I'm just curious.

lol, okay. I was thinking there was some type of road that I didn't know existed. But yeah, the other day I was about to cross with a walk signal, and thank goodness I always look at cars before I step off the sidewalk! Guy makes a right turn in front of me. So in this case I was able to stop, I wasn't in the street already.

Was walking for a 2 km egg. People at work say they don't bother with those, but I was hopeful. Turned out to be a Rattata.

I had just started one of those (cause it would hatch around the time my 10 k would hatch) and i do it cause we've gotten mostly caterpies, weedles, and magikarps. also they hatch fast so you can plop one in before you walk and maybe hatch before you end. My big peeve is that apparently because I am a slow walker (short legs, short person my stride is thus short) that for the app to truly believe i am actually walking the distance I'm walking (what am i tying the phone to a dog or rc car or something?) I have to add some extra shaking it like a Polaroid picturing for it to show anything close to what I actually walked case in point I walked about 4 miles tonight aka about 4.3km . It registered around 2.8 to 3 of those km hatching 1 2km egg and putting 1.1 on the second.

I saw a lady this morning turn in front of (i.e. cut off) a public transportation bus!

The bus driver and I kinda looked at each other with that "Really?" look...

One of our training videos involves a similar situation... but it was one of our cabs turning in front of the light rail, which can't exactly stop on a dime. (Damages to the train were in the low 7 figures, plus numerous minor injuries to train passengers. The driver was responsible for the first $1500, and everything over $1m... yeah, he screwed himself.)

I've seen some weird street names. One that has an overpass over I90 in New York is named "gravel road" (even though it's paved), and I once made a pickup on East West Street (which ran from north to south).

Are you sure it was a White, and not a Hayes, an Autocar, a Diamond T, or a Sterling?

Where I went to school, there were North, South, and West streets. I don't remember an East street, though. They all ran perpendicular to the direction in their names, as well. I heard that they were actually named for local families who settled the area or were prominent early in the town's history.

In a neighboring area they have numbered avenues which go everywhere (for example 3rd avenue comes off 7th avenue and 11th ave comes off 7th avenue). This is a rural area and only thing I can think is the streets were originally logging tracks (90% have since been removed and now it is medium and hobby farms.

In my town the center of town has a decidedly botanical theme with laurel st, lime st and walnut st, while the estate across the main road has an avian bent with plover way, bell bird drive and cockatoo drive

Ever go Atlanta? After driving there for a week, you will never want to see a street with the name "Peachtree" in it for as long as you live...

Peachtree St/Ave/Dr/Cir/etc, Peachtree Battle, Peachtree Industrial, I'm sure there's a Peachtree Peachtree in there somewhere...and probably a NW Upper East Peachtree South...
