They are doing construction on a highway overpass near where the gym I go to. They've narrowed it down from two lanes to one on each side and are working in the middle. Why is that people feel the need to idle their way through the construction zone? I understand slowing down for the safety of the construction workers, but come on, there is no need to to literally idle through the construction zone, especially when there are no workers present.

Locally, people freak out over construction zones. That's why they slow down. Not the only reason though--quite a few areas put police cars near the zones, and yes, they *will* bust you for it. In PA, they'll double the fines if you're caught speeding through a construction zoneAerodynamics are for people who can't build engines. --Enzo Ferrari

So, 10 X the difference between your speed and posted speed, doubled for a work zone = SLOW TEH EFF DOWN!Any day you're looking down at the dirt instead of up at the dirt is a good day.

And remember, the speed is reduced in the construction zone even when they are NOT actively working in it. Applies to nights and weekends. A lot of people get caught on this."If anyone wants this old box containing the broken bits of my former faith in humanity, I'll take your best offer now. Thought I'd mention this too--I don't know of the rest of Pennsylvania...but cops do sit in the middle of construction zones. They may be in a patrol car, or even in a PennDOT truck...and have an additional cruiser being used to intercept speeders.
Then there's my borough--they usually use 2, but sometimes 3 cruisers to nail people. The first one sits at the borough line. The speed limit drops from 40 to 35mph, and most people are doing well over that. What usually happens, is the first cruiser, will then radio the others with the speeder's description.
