Long Cross

This happened a long while ago but it kinda stuck in my mind.

I was at the intersection just down from my house and the light switches from green to yellow to red.

everyone slows and stops, the please cross sign switches on and a little old lady starts her way across.

So everyone is idling waiting for the light to change and i notice that just as the little old lady reaches the halfway mark the cross traffic light turns red, that means ours is seconds away from green and little old lady is still crossing at a snails pace.

It turns green and i hold my breath a bit because i've seen too many people just go without checking.

Thankfully this one time everyone stays right where they are and all three lanes
just

and
watch
as this poor little woman waddles along, staring at her feet like every step is an extreme act of pure concentration. I looked around and could see the same thought on all our faces. 'should somebody get out and hekp her across?'

finally she made it to the other side, all cars breathed a sigh of relief and went on our way, the light turned orange again the car after mine.

But, sometimes you see the other extreme. I've seen college students literally *run* to the corner, and take their sweet time crossing the street. Once across, they start running again
