I know that this asshat was a person that I work with....I have seen this car in the parking lot at work before, and in the time frame that I drive to work at night, pretty much the only people on the road are semi trucks and night shift workers going to work.
This person started out as a "duckling".....meaning instead of passing me, for the longest time (several miles) they just stayed behind me and tailgated me.
Now mind you, I need to be to work by 11....it wasn't even 10:30 and I was only about 5 miles away from work, because I was to the point where I have to get off one highway and loopdeloop onto another....going from north to east.
The duckling then turned into a full blown asshat when instead of just following me and refusing to pass, he started getting closer and closer.....full on tailgating me....
When it came time to merge onto the second freeway, I did what I always do when someone is tailgating me in this situation....I try to get as close to the center line as possible so that they can't try to go around me. Many, many people do what is called "One Upping"....any time someone is following you too closely, and you're about to merge or make a turn, they will take that opportunity to whiz in before you can get in, so then you'll have to get back and wait for them to go past you, or you'll have to stand your ground and force them to wait. Usually, hugging the center line or oncoming turn lanes (whichever situation I'm in) discourages one-upping because then they'll actually have to go into oncoming traffic to get around me.
But since it was 10:30 at night...of course there was barely anyone on the road....so before the merge lane even closed off.....asshat darted off into the regular lanes and rocketed past me at probably 80+ mph.
I couldn't wrap my head around that. Dude, you are NOT going to be late for work. I take this way every night, go the same speed every night, and the latest I've ever made it to work on a normal night was probably 10:45. And that would be on a night that I screwed around too much before I left!
I got to work at 10:38.......plenty of time to spare. I wonder why the hell that asshat needed to be at work RIGHT NOW OMFGBBQ!!!1!!! I'M LATE!!!
