Thought I'd throw this in as a general "catch-all" to the various idiots I had to deal with this morning...

It's bad enough that Route 28 is a mess lately. But, leave it to our wonderful transportation agency to turn a simple morning commute into a total mess. Yep, I got caught in the mess resulting from the Veteran's Bridge closure this morning. All of that traffic, which would normally go on its happy way across the bridge, was being forced to detour...and the side street being used, simply couldn't handle it. As such, traffic was backed up from the bridge, down onto the parkway, and ahead past the stadiums.

Most people realized that they weren't going anywhere, and simply waited. But, it didn't stop a few people from forcing past stopped traffic (the ramp I was on narrows to one lane), in an effort to get around the blockage. They'd literally wedge their way past, only to have to slam on the brakes to avoid getting hit by traffic already on the road. In fact, this didn't stop one intrepid driver (in a beat-up white Mazda Millenia) from doing just that. I'd moved over a bit, to avoid some glass, when she came up from behind me. Rather than wait, she got over a bit too far, and scraped the entire side of her car against the wall Seems she was late for a meeting with her crack dealer

But, that was minor for what nearly happened later--I nearly hit a truck After I got away from the bridge, and away from the idiots attempting to detour, the box truck ahead of me put his left signal on, started to move into the left lane...and started slowing down. No sooner do I start to pass him (I'd assumed he was moving over to avoid traffic coming off the next couple of ramps), he slams on the brakes...and makes a fucking U-turn in front of me, with not quite a carlength of stopping room I somehow managed to slam on the brakes, blast the horn, as he shot across *3* lanes of traffic without hitting anyone. Seems he really wanted the exit ramp (which was also flooded with cars) on the *right* and rather than simply go to the traffic light, he thought he'd save a few minutes. Never mind that he could have killed me!

Seriously, where the FUCK do people learn to drive here?

    Simple answer: They don't.

Did you manage to get the name of the company from the truck?

Unfortunately, it was a plain white rental truck. No company names on it anywhere. Otherwise, I would have called up the company, and ripped them a new one.

In fact, I actually did that several years back. After being cut off *twice* by some idiot in a van, I'd had it. Not only did he piss me off, but quite a few commuters as well--he was weaving in and out of traffic constantly, and driving like a jackass. As if that wasn't enough, he then ran a red light...and nearly hit a school bus By then, I had the vehicle's number, the company name (which I then used to get the contact info off the web), plus the registration.

All of that info got posted in a strongly-worded email, basically saying that if the company didn't do something, he was not only going to hit someone...but possibly damage the company's reputation as well. That sure got their attention! Two days later, I got a reply stating that the individual in question was suspended during the investigation, but eventually let go...after an accident. Oddly enough, he *did* get in a wreck later that day My email was simply more fuel on the fire!
