  • This is Just Weird

Yesterday I was driving behind a small car on a two-lane road. The driver kept swerving into the oncoming lane- thankfully, there was no one coming the other way. They'd swerve, then get back in our lane. It happened multiple times.

Finally I put it together. There are a lot of trees along the road, it was sunny, and some of the trees' shadows jutted out into the road. The driver swerved every time this occurred.

Yes, the driver was swerving to avoid SHADOWS.

I wonder if this person has vision problems. If it's so bad they can't tell a shadow from an object...they shouldn't be driving.

That is wierd. And sounds like they shouldn't be on the road.

They might be like my grandpa. Even when he was young, he could never ever ever stay in his own lane. He is a scary driver.

And yes, he has been pulled over multiple times for suspected DUI, though he hasn't drank since 1980.

sounds like they were on drugs
To err is human, to blame someone else shows good management skills.

Have you seen As Good As It Gets? You know the bit where he can't walk on tiles or anything that has lines on it?

That driver probably has the same sort of neuroses.

I'm the same way, to a degree. I have to make a conscious decision to step on lines in the pavement. And if I'm paying attention, I put the same number of steps for each foot in any patch of shadow, or any different type of paving material. It makes the way I walk look a little strange, to be sure.

I've never gone so far as doing anything like that while driving, however, thank $deity. ... although, come to think of it, I have adjusted my line to hit/miss certain cosmetic things on the road... >.<

            Woooah.

Yeah, I agree, it has to be they thought the shadows were objects, or they have a quirk about shadows.

I wonder if they called the city/town to complain about all the debris in the road?
