Why not be in the lane you NEED to be in when you need to be in it?
I don't get why people lane jump throughout their entire trip (save for when they are passing or if there is road construction or someone going really slow and blocking stuff up).
Yesterday I was in a multiple left turn lane, a van was in the lane next to me. We both turned left when we got the green arrow, and before I was entirely done turning and correcting, the asshole was already trying to get into my lane! You know what, you drooling moron, why weren't you in this lane to begin with?!
Oh, it's because people have to be first, or they can't be behind anyone, they think surely if they are the first in line or in the lane with the least amount of vehicles, they will get to go faster.
Well, wrong. We both turned at almost the same rate of speed, but the idiot tried to make a lane change before I was even done turning.
So then this idiot hops another lane into the furthest right one (6 lane highway, 3 on each side) and I figure ok, maybe idiot didn't know where they were going and wanted to turn right ahead.
No.
Idiot hops once more, back into the lane I am in a few vehicles behind me at this point (so much for being first, right?) and takes the same exit that I do, but then hops to the straight lane next to me. We go through the next set of lights, both going straight, and after a few blocks, idiot is behind me again.
Wouldn't it have just made more sense to be in the lane that you need to be in the entire time, if you can help it? That's what I always do. Unless I have to pass or go around something, I am always in the lane I need to be in. If it's a left lane and I'm not comfortable going that fast, I'll go in the right one until a bit before my exit, so I have enough time to get over.
Almost everyone I know pulls this crap, too. My boyfriend is AWFUL about it. But he's also one of those people obsessed with getting around everyone and being the first....we have missed many exits and had a few close calls because he isn't in the lane he needs to be in when he needs to be in.
So effing irritating.
