  • And just what did you expect me to do?

    Drive THROUGH a truck??

After my little near miss on I-68, we came up to I-79, which is a windy, mountainous interstate populated largely by trucks. Today there was a lot of traffic slowdowns due to the trucks as well as several consecutive breakdowns.

At one point, I got stuck behind a rolling roadblock of 18-wheelers. A white car with California plates was tailgating me, with the driver gesticulating wildly. Now, there was enough of a gap between the lead truck and the tail truck that if I was a sucky driver, I could have darted between, but it would have been very dangerous, especially since we were going up a steep hill at the time.

So, to get the jerk off my tail, I changed lanes to get behind the tail truck, and a moment later the lead truck pulled into the right lane, giving Mr. California a chance to roar ahead.

And he gives ME the finger. Not the trucks, ME.

Um....what did you expect me to do?? I can't control what the trucks do. Don't blame me if you were in a hurry!

And it's not like it even gained him anything because all the traffic meant he only gained a couple car lengths on those trucks before getting stuck behind more traffic.

Yes, but those couple of car lengths means HE WINS!

I heard on the radio recently that a study said that speeding and unsafe driving gained commuters on average of 8 minutes... per week. So that's what, 30 seconds gained per trip? Certainly makes all that weaving and lane changing and cutting people off worth it, doesn't it?

Cars are like the internet. When some of these people are in their car, they feel armored and anonymous. No one knows who they are, and no one can hurt them, so they're free to rage and taunt and act like complete douchenozzles free of consequences.

... And like the internet, that's not actually true. Except you can't splatter yourself and five other drivers across the pavement on the internet.

He knew he was safe giving you the finger. Had he done that to the trucker, Weenie Boy would have gotten flattened.

Exaspera, you're probably right. If only his assumption that he was safe giving the OP the finger had been proven wrong by a little hunting down of the douche. After all, you never know who is driving, what their temper is, and what weapons they might have with them!
