back when i lived in virginia on the way home from work (when i was stationed at norfolk) i would make a right hand turn off of a very busy boulevard onto a quieter road... the busy road was ... i think 55mph, and the quiet road was maybe 35.
the intersection was special in that they had a special turn lane just for people making that right hand turn, separated by a tiny traffic island.
the problem was a lot of drivers failed to notice that the special turn lane had a white line going across it. meaning that, when the light was red, we still had to stop to see our way clear.
and some drivers were REALLY bad about it. I remember seeing one guy ... not only did he totally ignore the red light, he took the turn so freakin fast, he slid into left-turn lane of the oncoming traffic. lucky for him no one was there, otherwise it would have been a spectacular and horrifying accident.
what a moron.
