  • You REALLY can't park there!

I understand that your apartment complex is repaving its parking lot. However, you can't park on the street. There are numerous "No Parking" for a reason. Namely, it's a steep hill, and you can't see oncoming traffic over the hill. If one car is parked on one side, it's bad enough, but there are cars parked on BOTH sides, leaving one narrow lane for cars to travel through.

We have a high school nearby that isn't really using their parking lot during the summer, and a good-sized shopping center next door with more than enough parking spaces (especially since the pub closed ). Yes, it's a bit of a walk, but sh*t happens, so suck it up and move your cars before you cause an accident! (I already almost got into a collision with an oncoming car...you really can't see well at all over the hill and it's not exactly a quiet street either. I think I'm going to go the back way until they're done repaving that place.)

I wonder if their landlord set anything up for them, or just let them fend for themselves. I know the high school rents out some spaces to the university and a transit shuttle...I'm sure they could have worked something out. Perhaps they did, and these people are just too lazy to park an extra 1/2 block away. Who knows. All I know is that it's frustrating driving that block now!

In all fairness, our landlord set us up for trouble.

Our parking lot was redone this week, they claimed that it was ok to park in the "no parking" area on the street that my bedroom window faces, even though there is a clear sign that says "No parking anytime", claiming that they had phoned the city and the police and had it okay'd.

One of my neighbors (we knew this would happen to someone during this period of having to park on the street) suffered a hit and run, the person parked behind him hit his back bumper and took off, and when he went to call the cops, the dispatcher said that they had no record of any calls from the property management company, it was never okay'd, and anyone who continues to park there parks there at their own risk of being ticketed.

Thankfully, not a single person was ticketed, but see what happens when people lie?

My dad who's on the board of a condo association told me they just had their parking lots sealed and had sent-out letters 3-months in advance telling tenants they had to move their cars by this time on this date. They put up signs reminding people all over the property. They left notices on everyone's doors a week before hand. When the day came to do the parking lot...6 cars were still sitting there!!! So they had to have them towed. I'll tell you what, when the day came to do the 2nd lot, there was only 1 car!

I mean, come on, these are adults here; adults that CLAIMED the board NEVER TOLD THEM they had to move their cars!

But yeah, you're landlord sounds a wee bit dishonest!

We had 3 days notice. Some would say that's plenty, but I think it was pretty lowball and rude.

For the most part, I am totally for standing by no parking and all the rules, but in instances of deception and assholery on someone else's part, I think bending the rules is not so bad.
