  • What is wrong with people?

One from myself and one from a local cop that I know.

    From me:

On my way to work, I pass through one town that has a number of intersections with lights, usually it's two lanes north and two lanes south with the occasional turn only lane.

Coming up to one light, it turned yellow, then red while I was still about 10 car lengths back. I slow down in order to stop. The guy behind me blares on the horn, whips around me to pass, guns his engine and shoots the red light into the intersection. He somehow managed to squeeze between the cars turning left from the other road and didn't get creamed but WTF, dude?

He also ran the next red light after swerving around traffic. Had he turned left and headed for the hospital I might have had some sympathy for him - it could have been an emergency.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) my lack of faith in humanity was confirmed a couple miles later when I saw him pulling out of McD's. I guess that egg mcmuffin just couldn't wait?

    From the cop:

This one is just...full of stupid. So, apparently there was an accident the other day at one of the major intersections. It's Y-shaped, one major road going north/south and an east/west route join at an angle. Going north, it is two lanes. Heading south it is one straight lane and a right turn only lane for those headed west. There is most definitely a traffic signal there. And it is directly in front of the local police station. Their driveway comes out into the intersection, though they don't have their own light for entry.

It seems that a woman headed south hit the trailer being pulled by a guy pulling out off of the east/west road. This is kind of hard to accomplish if you obey the lights. When the cop pulled his cruiser out to talk to them, both drivers insisted they had a green light.

After a bit more conversation, it turns out the woman was headed south and saw the red light. She also saw that the right turn only lane, for turning west, had a green arrow for people turning right. This is normally safe, because traffic pulling out is heading either north (a left turn) or south (a right turn) so west bound traffic never crosses their part of the intersection. This genius decided that she didn't want to wait for the red light in the southbound lane, and since the right turn lane had a 'green light', she just switched lanes and drove straight through. Well, until she creamed the guy's trailer.

So, the end result is that she got ticketed immediately for running the red light and improper lane usage, as well as clearly being at fault for the accident, and was sent to the hospital to be checked for injuries. Word is the DA will probably seek reckless endangerment, too. Which would be good, it'll get her stupid off the route I drive twice a day to and from work.

    These people scare me...

Yyyyep. The extra green light is for the turn, not for the lane.

Isn't it easier to ask what isn't wrong with people?

Much easier. Sims characters are brighter.
