  • Just Missed Having An Accident

As Mrs. IA and I were headed out to dinner tonight, we stopped for a red light. We were first in line in the left of two lanes. The oncoming traffic had a green light and turn light before we got a green light. When my light turned green, I started up. Being a largish intersection, I had gained a bit of speed half way across. An idiot coming the opposite direction suddenly turned in front of me, causing me to brake suddenly and blow my horn The idiot didn't even look in my direction and kept going, also cutting off the guy to my right. A half second later, I would have smashed into him, or he into me. And I don't think anyone was behind me.

Yesterday morning, some retarded teenager pulled up to a stop sign across from me, which I had been waiting to go straight for a few minutes, she was going to turn left.

As soon as traffic clears, I let off the brakes, and she just plows right on with her left turn and didn't even LOOK at me or what she'd nearly done.

This morning, leaving Wal-Mart, once again I saw someone on a side street, creeping further and further and further past the red light, ONLY looking right, NOT left.

Had one of those today. I was sitting at a red light at a 4-way intersection. Car also at the red in the oncoming lane, with his left-turn signal on. When the light went green, sure enough, the oncoming car gunned it to make a turn before I could even get halfway across the intersection.

Sadly, this is far too common an occurrence in this state. It's like the driving instruction classes here forgot to cover right-of-way.

My last near-miss was one of these self-involved assholes.

My signal goes green and I'm about to turn left when some guy coming from the right barrels through the intersection, long after his light has turned red.

Last Saturday, I was on my way to bf's house.

My light had been green, yet some retard just flew straight through the red light without even slowing or caring what they'd done.

          Thank God I pay attention.

I had two near misses in one day on Wednesday.

First one: I went with Evil Empryss to pick up her van from the shop (she had a loaner car) because I wanted to see where the place was (she has a really good mechanic who specializes in Hondas and is really reasonably priced). As we pull up to a light, some idiot tries to cut her off to make a left turn out of the parking lot he is in. She had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting him . . . and I got very scared because I didn't like how the braking felt. Idiot was talking on his cell phone the whole time.

Second one: I was on my way back home from Tae Kwon Do class. I live in a small town wedged between two cities, so I take this country road to get to my house. Guy in a pick up truck has stopped on the side of the road, which has no shoulder so he's half on half off the road. He has only his parking lights no, no flashers. Because it is dusk, he is very hard to see: I hit the brakes just in time to be able to slow down and go around him. Idiot!

Ironclad, I'm so glad you and the Missis are alright. I either don't notice this stuff, or what...
oh! something hilarious: I was on a 'ramp' to exit onto a highway, and there were cars in front of me. There were other lanes of traffic not entering the exit ramp. This white blazer cuts in front of a red truck abruptly-- they both changed lanes, but the blazer just a split second later! It was like it was stuck to the front of the red truck! Not to mention we're going 40 and the two were no more than two feet apart!
The blazer just as abruptly yanks its' wheel over and slews just as crazily into a non-ramp lane... and we all go on with life.
