  • I Don't Know Where I'm Going!

    First incident of the morning:

On the freeway this morning, just a couple of miles from my exit, some random moron in a white car gets just beyond my front bumper and simultaneously signals right and slides right over. I didn't even see the bastard look.

This is one of my biggest peeves of highway driving, or anywhere you could be changing lanes. If you are JUST cresting the front end of the vehicle you want to pass, you need to gain a little more distance before it's safe to move over. Also, you use your signal BEFORE you move over, not AS you move over.

And bonus points....after he passed me, he didn't gain any more speed. I had my cruise at about 68 (my norm), and this douche that had to pass me so badly wouldn't even go beyond that in front of me. I had to cancel my cruise and tootle behind him until my exit.

Then there was this idiot in a silver van. I was nearly shaking because I was so pissed at this person.

You can be in an unfamiliar place and be unsure of where to go without being a complete fucking idiot with no respect towards others on the road, aka, without blocking lanes and intersections and without hogging them!

So this van took the same exit as me, but instead of getting in the lane they needed to be in, they kept changing from middle to furthest right, when that lane disappeared into a turn lane, they went back left, then finally, furthest left in front of me (first indication that they are either unfamiliar here or just plain stupid).

Then we were both approaching the next left off of the main drag. Of course, idiot in the van doesn't think they need to turn left there. Until.......oooh woops.....wow....ok, about 50 feet from the white stop line at the red light, they realize "Oh, shit, my turn!" and try to squeeze in. Although by this point, there isn't much room. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like being a total bitch, so instead of piling in, I left a tad of room, but I was NOT going to back up, since there were others behind me. The idiot in the van kept trying to wiggle over, but their vehicle was too big. So they were taking up half the turn lane, and half of the straight lane. NICE.

We turned left, and a few blocks down the road, there becomes a turn lane, one for the dollar store/tool store, and then the next block down, one for Subway and where my mom works. Note that it is NOT an extra lane to toodle in, which a lot of people treat it that way. One of the reasons my mom quit taking this way to work was because she'd think that someone in the left lane was turning into the dollar store or whatever, but they'd just dwell in that lane and my mom wouldn't be able to get over for her turn.

That's what this idiot did. They got into the left lane before the dollar store turn, and I just had an inkling that they were going to dwell and see how far that road went before they had to turn.

So here is where I was a bitch. I didn't want to have to go one street down and turn around because of this idiot on wheels, they'd already caused me enough of a headache, so I gave it some gas (since the van was actually getting to almost crawling now, they must have been really confused or something) and blew around them and made the turn. Surprisingly, they took the turn and didn't end up bewildered when they had to turn or run into opposing traffic like some idiots do.

Anyway, I lost them when I made the next turn....they were barely even going at this point. I have no idea where they were from or what they were looking for, all I can say is I have never been that stupid while driving in an unfamiliar place in my entire driving tenure. I have driven slower than normal and I have missed turns, but instead of clogging up lanes, I have gone another road down and turned around. Instead of assuming roads go places, I look to make sure the lanes don't end.
