  • Apprently dents appear 15 minutes after a hit XD

YAY MY FIRST POSTING OF AN ASSHAT! sorry I shouldn't be so happy but I never get good stories for this site (well I have some old repo stories, but lets test the waters with this one first)

Me, my husband, who I will call C, and my two friends, E and F where heading home from a con this monday and stopped at a service station for E and C to eat (me and F ate at the hotel before leaving)

Well next to us was a white suv or jeep (didn't get that good a look cause at the time, I didn't think to look) with two people sitting in it, kind of odd but either they where waiting for someone or just got there so again, nothing to note when E came out and accidentally tapped, as in the lightest car door tap ever, the other car

    E. Oh sorry

and E said this in the sweetest voice he could muster too, cause it was an oops but things happen right?

Well the four of us where sitting fifteen minutes later, talking about the con and joking when this old fart came up and started yelling at us

OF: HEY YOU HIT MY CAR
    us:
OF: YOU MADE A HUGE DENT, PAINT COMING OFF AND EVERYTHING
ME: (I have a big mouth and a bigger memory) I didn't see a dent, there was no damage
OF: YES THERE WAS ABOUT A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS WORTH, YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS
    all of US:

He walked out and I told C to check the car (alarm bells went off at this point)

Me, E and F all started talking about the red flags, the first being the timing, why didn't he check right after, and why come in fifteen minutes later after the dent, maybe five minutes I would understand, but fifteen?

The other was he didn't ask for our info (we didn't ask his either but still...) not to mention there where two witnesses to the hit

I checked the car myself, no paint on our car, so I knew he was lying, plus a dent worth 200 bucks of body work I think if fairly visible even in a white car

btw our car is fine, he didn't do anything to it (good thing too I remembered what he looked like in detail, to a point of scaring F with how good I remembered)

what do you guys think, was he a scammer, and asshole or were we in the wrong somehow

I am just happy to have a story for this board for once

depending on the light it might not have been noticeable and with many cars being fiberglass it isn't as easy of a repair. someone hit my civic the bumper is not really messed up just has the paint/ plastic chipped/gashed, if I remember tomorrow I will post a picture, in the right light you don't notice it..... even in good light it really "isn't that bad", but according to several insurance quotes $600 is what would cost to repair it properly, whole bumper needs replaced.
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

stories like these is why i've started putting my hand on the edge of my car door at the widest part before fully opening it. if anything hits another vehicle it will be my hand.
scam wouldnt surpise me that much. there is a diffrence between a tap and a hit, and anything that would have damaged his car to that extent would have left paint transfer if not damage to your car. odds are they were hoping to scare you into paying cash to not have to involve the insurance guys *winkwink*

oddly that is what me and E thought right away, and F figured either that or the guy was just plain nuts (she knows a woman like that, thinks things happen to her when they don't for no reason then they are out of their gourd) C isn't to worried about it

it was the line about the paint that clenched it for me though, if we took paint off his car, I am pretty sure it would end up on our car too, and ours is black, so white paint would show up very nicely

we didn't hit the bumper, it was the side of the car, and the light had not changed within fifteen minutes (it was early afternoon when this happened) plus this didn't look like a fiberglass car, this was an suv and it didn't seem that new if I remember right

plus the tap was WAY too light to do anything, you barely HEARD it much less saw anything

Ah ok, mine was an idiot physically driving into the car while on his way inside to get his license.... technically because of the accident he shouldn't have been able to take the test but, when he got back and was inside and my mom and brother came out and a bystander flagged her down to let her know the car 5 spots over hit her left and came back. When the cops arrived and the guys aunt got mouthy about how her nephew was inside conducting business, he whipped out his handcuffs and said "I guess ill go get him then", guys cousin ran in for him. The Kid actually managed to get a whole 4 points in his first 15min of having a license. 12 in 2 year period you lose your license, wonder how he faired.

But, back to topic, college town was notoriously windy, and eventually you or someone else would get the door snatch out of your hand and a dent would show up. but shit happens. It never really bothered me because I parked by decent cars figuring, avoid chance of damanging high end car, and avoid the people who look like they take aggression out on their car.

actually we where just outside of pittsburg when this happened and there was no wind, it was just a miscalcuation of how close or far the cars were

actually I talked to my dad about this (he tends to be less naive about these things then me, plus it might give me a better idea of if I did something wrong) he kind of agrees with mine, E's and F's assessment of them being scamers,

Mom have a kinda sorta REALLY RATHER EXPENSIVE towbar on R-Jeep (her jeep) and every time someone parallel parks in front of her, they hit it. Every. Single. Time. It pisses her off to no end and then Dad and I get to bear the brunt of that anger.

UNLESS I was there and I stared them down and started yelling (TOO CLOSE! TOO CLOSE!).

Because that thar Jeep is connected to the hotdog cart and the whole thing jerks when the Jeep is hit.

Now I don't much care if ya hit MY car right now, seeing as I know how to repair it. But hit it in the future when I've finally replaced the plastic bumpers with steel? Yeah, you're gonna regret that one, bubba.

but your mom did the yelling RIGHT AFTER it was hit right, this loon yelled at us fifteen minutes later, and there was NO DAMAGE none nada zip zilch and this guy was claiming a couple hundred dollars of damage!

and we weren't too close because I could open my door and not hit the car, it was a simple mistake and again I think the guy was trying to scam us pure and simple

maybe, but if he tried being nice he might have gotten somewhere, I think the best scamers are the ones that act nice anyways, not the ones that scream at you

pretty much the moment he started yelling at us we kind of looked at him with confusion or disbelief and decided he was at least a loon
