  • Wha....?

Driving along, nice day, there are 3 lanes, which are busy, but not packed. All 3 go straight ahead, though one has a turn onto the highway. I glance over to the side to see an old style blue pickup truck starting to pretty much try to merge with me into the center lane. (AGAIN PEEPS, PT convertibles are wonderful cars, but we do NOT have the ability to merge with other cars and become one. I promise you this. Particularly not something as conflicting as a blue pickup truck. 'pologies) Anyway, not wanting to become a nice smear on the road, not challenging something that's at least twice my car's weight. I drop back. Sure enough the guy's turn signal is on, so I stay back, giving him plenty of room to merge.... which he doesn't. He stays in the other lane, turn signal flashing for long enough for me to wonder if he's just forgotten to turn it off after realizing there's no point to merging, when he suddenly turns the other direction... onto the highway.

I think sometimes people just have a complete lapse of any kind of thought. I've had the exact same experience. I'm a lot more cautious nowadays when I see people trying to pull into my lane after having a very close escape from nearly being side swiped by a lorry...

Yeah, the husband drives a PT. Not a convertible, though. Love love love me a PT Cruiser. Just such a freaking cool car.

Not a heck of a lot of pickup, though. I guess you don't really need a lot of pickup driving a PT. I don't even care, I love the things.

This actually sort of happened to us on the highway at the tail-end of our recent family vacation. Three-lane highway, Hubby in the leftmost lane, red car in the rightmost lane, empty lane between us. Hubby signals his intent to merge to the middle lane, then asks me to spot for him because the highway was a little tight there. The red car wasn't signalling or moving, and the middle lane was clear, so I gave Hubby the all clear.

Just as we started moving over, though, the red car made its move to merge to the middle as well. Both drivers moved quickly back to their lanes once they realized what was up, and not much later, the other car took a ramp off the highway instead of moving to get back into the middle lane. I still don't know why it felt the need to merge to the middle when it was going to be exiting so soon.
