  • I applaud your maneuvering, a**hole

Okay, so because leaving notes and asking nicely hasn't stopped my new upstairs neighbors from using my parking space as their "guest" space, I've started just double-parking behind anyone parked in my spot. If they're going to make it difficult for me to park, I'm going to make it difficult for them to leave. This way, once they come to ask me to move my car, I can explain to them why what they did is not okay to their face. Yeah, it's kinda b***y, but it's become a chronic problem and I've tried being nice. They've pushed me too far and have unlocked Bhskittykatt the B****!

Here's a picture. The white car is my neighbor's car. The silver car is the dbag parked in my spot. I'm the green car. Yes, my other neighbor's spot is extra-wide...I did that intentionally. Because there's a little aisle there, I can JUST squeeze my little car in without blocking access to my neighbors' parking spots. (Not shown: large and obvious apt. numbers labeling the spaces.)

The silver car actually managed to maneuver his car out of there, thankfully without hitting my car or my neighbor's car. I must have given him too much room. I had just enough time to run outside and flip them off as they drove off. They'd been parked there for 40 minutes since I'd gotten home.

I did post their plate on http://www.zapatag.com so I can tell in the future if they park there again.

I'm going to presume that you've talked to the property management and they're the ones that told you to talk to the neighbors - in which case fail on their part.

If you haven't you need to.

you need to write a letter to your apartment management and inform that you pay rent and part of that rent includes an assigned parking spot - and that your neighbors' guest are not paying rent, and therefore need to park in the visitor parking; inform them that the next time it happens you will be reporting it and if they don't resolve it you will resolve it.

Send this letter certified mail; return receipt requested

The next time it happens go park by the office, and ask that they take care of it (now!) if they give you the run-around or don't seem inclined to do anything - call a tow company; your complex should have a "preferred" company they use - call them. Tell the tow company that you are calling from your complex and that there is an unauthorized car parked in spot XXX (your parking spot) and could they come remove it please; they should give you an Estimated Time til Arrival - note it, and let them know you'll call back if the car moves before then....
now this is where it gets tricky - you don't give the tow company your name; you don't indicate that you are a resident - you just want to say you are calling from the complex (the tow company will assume that you are from the office)

once the offending vehicle is gone move your car to where it belongs.

Just be careful with the double-parking. They may be jerks about it and try to get YOU ticketed for double-parking. Yeah, writing to Management and having them towed as needed is the way to go.

We had that problem for a little bit when we first moved into our complex. We called the tow trucks every time. Without fail. I don't believe they ever got towed, but they got the message.

Of course, they also learned that I'm fairly easy-going. If they parked there to unload groceries or what have you, and there was someone there to move the car when I showed up, I was cool with them using the space - it was only when they parked and left the car alone that I would call the tows.
