Ok, hope it's ok to post this here. It isn't about rage, but is about the road, and I do think it's a great story, so since I did read a few that weren't totally sucky, thought I'd post it.
This was years ago, a friend and I had been out shopping, and were heading home. We both lived on the same street in a small section of Navy housing. The street we turned onto before ours was small, quiet, not a lot of traffic, and only lead to housing and the clinic, no through traffic.
Here's the scene - very important to visualize. On our left is the clinic - large imposing old style building, think courthouse or similar, on this side were steps going basically from the sidewalk, up to the main entrance, no space in front. On our right, a row of houses, no driveways, only street parking. The road is fairly narrow - with a line of cars parked all along the right side (no parking on left), there is just enough room for two cars from opposite directions to pass each other, with no room to spare.
So, my friend is driving. A car is coming from the opposite direction. No problem, just enough room for us both. As we go down the street, suddenly a car door opens wide from a parked car on the right, and a person starts to get out. Right in front of us, with the approaching car almost there. Instinctively, I put my hand out on the dash to brace myself, shut my eyes, and wait for the crash.
Miraculously, no crash. I slowly open my eyes, and we're at the end of the street, ready to turn into the next street, and all is well. My friend pulls the car over to the curb. At this point I'm beginning to laugh from sheer nerves, and look at her and say "I shut my eyes, how on earth did we make it through there?". She turns to me, and she starts lauging as well, and says "I've no idea, I shut mine too!".
We had already turned the corner, and had no desire to go back and check the scene - I had visions of the approaching car driving up the clinic steps to avoid us, or the guy getting out of a car jumping on top and shutting the door with his feet
Needless to say, from that day, I always came up with a reason to drive when we went anywhere
