  • You think someone would look first.

Not sure if this should go in here or sightings but I read this in the local newspaper.

It's about 2am and I was coming home from work. They have a piece of the road on the way home roped off with the police all around it and the "Do not Cross" yellow tape up so it piqued my curiosity and I looked it up in the paper the next day.

Apparently a women was crossing the street and had a seizure in the middle of the road. A car stopped and put on it's blinkers while the person called the cops because they didn't know what to do. The car behind them apparently got really inpatient and not seeing the lady on the road, drove around the car with it's flashers on after much yelling, and HIT the lady that was laying in the street. She had to be med-flighted out and was in critical condition. They must have been investigating it as a crime scene when I drove by.

    Yikes.

They'll take a ton of evidence from the scene such as visibility, positions, etc. That way, if it comes down to it, they know what to charge the second driver with beyond being an unsafe, impatient prick.

Did Impatient Prick at least stop after s/he ran this poor lady over, or was it a hit and run?

(What do they say, more haste less speed, right? It's like that story that I think it was MotorCop posted once, the guy he pulled over is saying Come on I'm late, and the cop's response is, well now you're gonna be even later.)

Oh my God. I hope that lady is okay and makes a full recovery I hope she sues that bastard to recoup all her medical costs as well.

Flashers = something out-of-the-ordinary is going on, so pay attention. When someone has flashers, or they're just stopped for no reason, why not try and figure out why that is the case before you go barreling off around them!

In fifth grade, a fellow classmate and her younger brother were struck while in a crosswalk. This particular crosswalk crosses five lanes - two in each direction and a turn lane in the middle. This crosswalk is RIGHT at the school too, so it's impossible not to notice that there are kids about as school lets out. There was a car in the right hand lane that had the flashers on as their engine had died. It was a red light, and the kids had the signal to cross.

A car coming up did not want to wait (remember, red light still) and screeched around the stopped car - and struck both kids squarely, throwing them into the intersection and all - and then drove off. The brother died, and the girl ended up in the hospital for quite a while. When she came back, she was in a wheelchair. She only stayed about a month or two, and then left school quietly. I sometimes wonder what happened to her after that.

It's unfortunate that the cross-traffic using the green was a couple pedestrians instead of a semi - that would have cured the idiot red light runner of their stupidity.
