  • That was nearly the end of me, and I wasn't even Driving!

So about 3 doors down from me is a Petrol Station with a 24hour shop attached. I'm working from home at the moment and grabbed a quick 5 min break to run down there and grab some snacks (in my slippers )

The Petrol station is a one way affair with 2 big no entry signs at the end with the shop close to my house. As I'm walking back out the exit way (there's no pavement) I look behind me to check that there's no cars pulling out when I hear the squeal of tyres. A car was literally pulling a handbrake turn far too fast into the wrong end of the petrol station
I've never had the moment where I thought I was going to be hit by a car until tonight... I ended up jumping out of the way (tripping over my feet and falling) into a bush at the side of this shop.

I couldn't believe the stupidity, why would you be going so fast into a turning for a start? Let alone ignoring the no entry signs!
A very nice woman came over to see if I was okay as did one of the guys from the shop who had come outside to see what the commotion was. The guy driving the car didn't even seem to notice, and had got out of his car to fill up (still facing the wrong way) Another guy filling up his car started yelling at this idiot for nearly hitting me and driving like a w***er to which the guy driving shouted over at me that I "shouldn't have been in the f***ing road" The other guy who started yelling at the idiot looked like he was gonna come over to this guys car and things were going to kick off, but the idiot driver got back in his car and sped off (leaving out of the entrance)

I probably should have got his license plate but I was shaking by the time it ended. Got a few grazes on my hands and arms and my manager gave me the rest of my shift off once I got home. Gonna pop into the shop to say thanks to the guy that came out and helped me. Just a bit shaken up by it all.

You might also request any photo/video evidence of the driver who almost hit you, too, in case you feel like going after him for being such an a**hole.

Don't feel too bad about that. Just be glad dipshit nearly hit you rather than nearly missed. Nerves will settle, but bones take a bit longer.

So I went in to the shop today and ended up talking to the Manager about the whole incident. Turns out the guy that nearly hit me turned up at the same petrol station about an hour later, filled up but when he went to pay was very abusive and racist to the staff. They ended up calling the police but the guy did a runner before they turned up. I gave them my details as the police are interested in hearing what happened from me. I'm just so surprised, I figured the guy was an asshole but these is a whole new level and not something that I've seen before in the area I live in. Will keep you updated!

good point. the gas station may have the plate.

you might not get it from them but if you talk to the police, THEY might be as kind as to ask for the info to press charges

Yes a bit of an update.
The local police got in contact with me, and I've been down to the station to give a statement. They know who this guy is and apparently he's wanted for shoplifting nearby as well. So they're pretty keen to track him down and get him through the courts. They said they would give me a call if they do manage to prosecute him for anything. I probably won't be involved any further as they have all my info but I'm interested to see if they get him.

I hope the police catch him and nail him to the wall. Reckless driving (especially nearly hitting you), shoplifting, gas station drive-off...there's enough there for a long stay at the Greybar Hotel.
