this is really starting to get serious in my town.

most of the time pedestrians are smart enough to actually look before they even think about stepping out into the street (either at the corner or in the middle of the block.

being a delivery driver I have noticed that the trend of not really looking both ways or NOT even bothering to look at all when crossing a street or intersection is starting to get very high. I am not sure why at this point.

in the last couple of weeks the potential of me and/or other motorists splatting the walking dead has increased significantly. and it has nothing to do with cell phone useage, talking to the person next to you, etc. these are lone people corssing a street (sometimes against the light)

it just seems that people just stroll out into the street without a care and hope a passing car will be able to stop. then they give you a look of " WTF are you doing driving on MY PRIVATE street???" they do not even act surprised when they suddenly notice 2 tons of metal about to hit them.
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

I always thought it was more of a "I don't have to look, of course they'll stop for me as I have the right of way" attitude.

    Problems there:
    1. You only have the right of way (in my state) in a crosswalk (marked or unmarked) AND (if protected by a light) have the green or walk symbol in your direction.
    2. You only have the right of way AFTER others on the road yield it to you. (Although they are required to by law, they don't always.)
    3. Cars can not stop as quickly as a person on foot. I've had them step off the curb in the middle of the street, traffic both ways going full speed, and expect me to stop within 5 feet so they can cross. Worse, they teach their kids to do this.

Sooner or later, some pedestrian on a cellphone will get run over - and they'll still blame the driver.
I will not be pushed, stamped, filed, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered. My life is my own. --#6

As a pedestrian I never take for granted that a driver can see me. I always try to make eye contact before stepping out. Unfortunately tinted windows are making that impossible.
