  • To the three people on the electric scooters...

*I can't remember exactly what they are called, so I'm referring to them as "electric scooters"......they kind of remind me of a podium on wheels*

Anyhow, there's not a lot to this story, other than I almost got hit by a group of three people traveling together on these. I don't know how difficult they are to steer or change direction, and I don't think these people were trying to be sucky, but here's what happened:

    - the man apparently couldn't go around me on the sidewalk, and had to say "excuse me". Which was fine, except that I stepped in the direction of one of the women.....I couldn't see or hear her coming up behind me, and she almost ran into me. (she got close enough to touch me on the shoulder, and I HATE being touched by people whom I don't know)

    - when I stepped aside again, the second woman in the group almost ran into me, and she started laughing when I sighed and rolled my eyes at them. (Yes, I was getting visibly frustrated)

    Segway.

Ye gods, the "security" guys at the mall near me use them. And oh my, are they menaces on those things.

I've ridden one. They're butt simple to use if you have any ability to balance at all. As in, enough to not fall over wearing old style quad skates easy. They steer by balance, too. Lean forward to go forward, lean back to go back, lean to the side to turn that way. The harder you lean the more it does what you're telling it to do. They turn on a dime, and if you're really good, you can do a full 180 without taking up much more space than the width of the vehicle.

      YouTube video
Check 1:33, 3:26, 3:40 for some turning capabilities. After that they start getting into silly and interesting things you can do with them.

They sucked. If they couldn't be bothered to follow behind each-other, causing you or anyone else to have to zig-zag to allow them to pass, they sucked mightily.

Perhaps someone should remind them to "share the road".... or rather the sidewalk.

            Segways?

I'll admit, I started snickering when I saw a mall cop riding one once, and had to stop myself from muttering something about "Paul Blart" loud enough for him to hear.
