  • You risked going in the ditch to save 5 seconds

I was at my apartment complex's entrance, ready to turn left into it, but needed to wait for oncoming traffic: 2 cars. The guy behind me decided 5 seconds was too long to wait and passed me on the right. He was so far onto the gravel that I could hear his tires slipping down into the ditch. He made it, but barely.

People can be absolutely ridiculous about having to wait in traffic.

Twelve years ago, we were visiting New York. We came up to the intersection and even though our light was green, traffic across the intersection was backed up over the crosswalk, where we would've been "blocking the box" if we'd gone through. As we were waiting for an opening, the cars on the opposite side started turning left. The schmuck behind us (I doubt he even bothered to look to see what the holdup was) decided to drive around us on the right, on the sidewalk, and ended up getting in a wreck with one of the left-turners. Worse, he then decided to blame us, and tell us we had to pay for the damages! (It wasn't our fault, and we didn't pay.)

Patience and paying attention are both extremely necessary when dealing with traffic. Doing otherwise could kill you, make you look extremely stupid, or possibly both.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

That happens going to my parents' house from where I live constantly. Unfortunately, the road is a tad wider (that whole road from where I work to leaving town is wider for the industrial park, and people treat it like it's two lanes, then in the small area it narrows, get all flustered and try to budge back in). Not quite two lanes but more like one and a half or almost two.

If I dare wait for anyone coming before turning left, people behind me will every time pass me on the right, into the gravel and nearly into the ditch.

The other day, my mom was trying out driving around town now that construction is almost done, and an impatient cow of a woman used a turn lane to pass and go around her.
