Parallel Parking Woes

Minor incident, but frustrating nonetheless.

Dear Driver of the Gigantic SUV,

Please try harder to parallel park correctly. There's a reason parking instructors try to get you to park within 12 inches of the curb. Mostly it's because when you park your massive vehicle two feet away from the curb as you did today, those of us parked in front of you can't see oncoming traffic through you. I couldn't tell if I was going to get sideswiped as I pulled out of my parking space to leave, because all I could see in my mirrors and out the side windows was your SUV.

Learn to park properly.

I am personally of the opinion that anyone wishing to purchase/drive any vehicle larger in size than a sedan should have to first prove they can freaking handle said vehicle. I see so many people with huge SUVs or trucks that seem to have no clue how large they are or how much space they need to maneuver.

Absolutely! There should be at least two grades between 'common' license and a CDL (commercial driver's here in the States). AND you should have to do a driving test in them. This thinking that being allowed to drive is some sort of right is ludicrous.

Very much agreed! Too many people seem to think they drive the same way a smaller sedan does, and too many people cannot control those behemoths!

Although, if people who couldn't drive the beast vehicles quit, I wouldn't have anyone to make fun of at work in the parking lot. It's too funny watching that one woman try to park that giant SUV, over and over, she can't get it between the lines. Over and over.

Agreed. When I did my driver training the company I did it with made sure I was in a vehicle that matched the size of the one I was driving at home. Since it was an SUV, I learned to drive/park in an SUV. Heck I did the parallel parking portion of my drivers test in an extended cab pickup, just so they could see I could do it.
