  • What. The. Fuck!

My evening yesterday just totally boggles my mind. A sequence of events took place that I can't believe happened, and they happened to ME!

I'm on my way home from running errands. It's about 7. I'm a little less than a mile from my road, and I get stuck behind a Subaru and a big Chevy pickup truck going barely 30 in a 40mph zone. Yes, it was might, but this stretch of road is well-lit, fairly straight, and has freshly painted lines, so there's no reason to not go at least 35.

I figure the Subaru driver is just a slowpoke and signaled to turn onto my road. TO my surprise, both the Subaru AND the pickup pulled onto my road without signaling, then slowed down!!

I had to jam on my brakes to avoid rear-ending the pickup. And just when I'm really close to him, a cigarette sailed out of the driver's window and came within inches of hitting my car.

We get about 50 yards up the road (if that) and they both stopped dead in the middle of the road. Without giving away too many details, my road is the type of road that no one but residents and their guests have any real business being on, and is fairly narrow.

And these two fools just stopped dead center in the narrowest part of my road. I can not even try to go around them.

Then the Subaru pulled over to the left, and the pickup truck pulled over the RIGHT!

Obviously these folks were lost, but they blew any chance of me helping them when failed to signal earlier and nearly caused an accident. So I started to try and snake my way past them, when I have to slam on the brakes again because the male passenger from the Subaru was walking to the pickup truck to talk to the driver. Not by walking on the side of the road but right smack dab down the middle of the clear part RIGHT TOWARDS ME!

He looks up, then slowly gets out of the way. I finally pull past the truck when the Subaru suddenly pulled left into in a driveway then BACKED OUT RIGHT IN FORNT OF ME!!!!!

My headleights had been shining right at that car since I pulled around the truck so she MUST have seen me. What the fuck?! Seriously!

And just like the dumbass passenger, she took her sweet time getting out of the way.

I have never in 13 years of driving this road and 25 years of living here, EVER seen such jackassery on my road, EVER.

I was too stunned to even blow the horn at those oblivious assholes.

Well, I know you lived on the road and all, but still ... they own all roads, so really, why would you expect them to get out of the way ... ?

Had something similar happen here today although not THAT bad: some guy pulls into the intersection on a green light and ... stops. Apparently to get his bearings. Um, fella, how 'bout pulling over??

Holy cow. I've seen some pretty stupid shit from people who get lost and suddenly brake or change lanes without checking: "Oh noes! If I miss my turn there won't be another place EVER where I can turn around and get back on track!"

But nothing like that. Yikes. Glad you're OK and didn't hit the fools.

Huh. See, right about the time they stopped I'd have probably freaked out and assumed they were trying to pull some sort of stickup. There was no way to turn around and take a different road?

Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he’ll have to touch to be sure.

that's something to consider too. a lot of people don't actually think that way however.

when i get home from work i'll see if i can find this guy's youtube vids. he does segments on how to protect yourself and how to not make yourself a target while driving. The only parts I remember however is... don't put high-value items on the passenger seat (like your purse or camcorder). And when you pull up behind other cars do not get too close... leave yourself room to GTFO if it turns out to be a robbery or car-jacking attempt.

Well, I was already on my road, so I would've had to turn around, then loop all the way around to the other end of the road. In any case, I got around them in less time than it would've taken to do all that.
