While I would normally post this with the other thread, I feel that this deserves a thread of it's own for the sheer scale of what happened. It is such a roadkill that I was not even on the road, or even the sidewalk to need to observe it.
Background: I used to live on a military (army, though we treated everyone) recovery base. Basically, it's where they send guys back from the war when they get beaten up to bad for standard repair, the generals who refuse to retire, and a couple high profile peeps. As such, there's guards on EVERY SINGLE GATE all of them. And what's more, they all are armed with multitude of guns. (Yes, this was in TX, so I'm saying a multitude for TX standards) End background
I'm on my computer, when suddenly the noise of an engine roaring, gunfire and police sirens startles me out of my electronic lull. Less than twelve seconds later, there comes the noise of smashing metal and breaking glass. Looking out the window, I can see that across the parade grounds (large open grassy area used to practice infantry drills and for the remaining show cavalry on base to drill) that there is a car slammed into the light post across the way, knocking it down onto the car. MPs show up less than five seconds later, guns drawn shouting for the guy in the crashed car to 'GET OUT AND GET ON THE GROUND NOW!". They pull someone from the wreck, then someone else and bundle them into the back of a car.
I find out the whole story the next day. Apparently someone got drunk, (first mistake) then got angry at the army, and decided he was going to go beat up some soldiers (pffftttttt) with his screaming girlfriend in the car. (second mistake. Poor woman) He chooses to get onto base by going up to 75mph and shoots through the gate, only to have the cops ram the strip spikes up and start shooting. Now panicked, with girlfriend screaming even louder, he tears off across base on what are now flat tires. Being overstaffed, the MPs give chase. He continues to accelerate, in what is a 20 mph zone. He lost control of the car and crashed, and was promptly arrested.
To this day, W.T.F. and I feel incredibly sorry for the girlfriend, who was apparently screaming from the start.
