About 5-times in the past week I've almost been head-on hit, sideswiped, t-boned and run off the road; and this is just in the parking lots that I patrol! Mind you, speed limit is 15mph, but people have hit up to 40. The driving out there this holiday season makes me want to hide under my bed until New Years!
So, we have 1-lane going west, 2-lanes going east, the left most of which is a turning lane. I come through a stop sign with another car turning-in behind me. I'm in the left-most lane with my turn signal on, passing by a 'do not enter' driveway to our autocenter. The car behind me pulls into the right most lane, so I assume she's going straight to store further down. I slow to make my left-hand turn when she pulls-up even to me and STARTS TO TURN INTO ME from the straight lane! I hit the break enough to let her squeeze by, but trying not to make the car behind me hit me. I laid on the horn and she juuuust made it by, then pulled into a parking space. She was an older lady, all frail and quavery when she got out of her car and said "I thought you were turning back there!" I pointed-out how that was a do not enter drive. She complained that I turned my turn signal on too early. I informed her that law states you must signal a turn 100 feet before doing so; though in the lot I had only about 50 to do so. In any case, she was still grumbling and complaining after I warned her to be careful driving this season.
Oy. They're out to get me, I can feel it. I almost got a t-boned by a BMW the day before in my personal car; what is with people doing 40 in a parking lot!?
