Another one from last weekend... More car show insanity/stupidity
One of the options this year, was a 'parade lap' for MG owners. Traditionally, the 'parade' features the Marque of the Year cars. One year, it was Ferraris, one year Corvettes, BMWs, etc. This year, it was our turn. First time I'd done it, and it was awesome. Nothing like cruising through the park on race day...blasting the horns, waving to the kids and corner workers, and having a good time. All money paid goes to autism charities, so why not?
About 9:30 or so, we're lining up on Schenley Drive in preparation for the parade. Some of us are checking out the other cars, chatting with other owners, etc. It's 9:30, and it's already 90F out, so most of us are either walking the 'line,' or sitting on the guardrail across the street in the shade.
10:55 rolls around, and we've been warned to get back to our cars. Not even a minute after that, some fool in a new-ish bronze Dodge Neon pulls into the line, and attempts to join us. He got out of his car, and was promptly intercepted by one of the marshals.
When told to leave, he started screaming at her. Basically, he felt that his Neon was a "classic," and that she had "better let him drive with the others.' Yeah, it's a "classic" in the same way that Snooki is a "genius"
She told him to GTFO, and he flipped. Nothing really special--a few comments about her weight, the fact she was on a golf cart (carts are usually provided to volunteers--the park is just too large to walk if you're carrying supplies or covering it end-to-end multiple times a day), and that he "wanted what [he] paid for.
Really? You paid for a parade lap...when your car isn't eligible? If you really did that, you're an idiot. Never mind that you drive a bronze Neon with rims that cost more than the car! At least he finally left when she threatened to flag down a passing police car...
It just amazes the hell out of me what some people feel entitled for. Sure, we had to pay an entry fee to display our cars and the parade...but the race itself, and nearly everything else is *free.* The tab is picked up by the city, major companies make donations, and all of the proceeds go to charity. A good cause, IMHO. You're not paying anything, so why act like an asshole about it?
