  • 2 idiots and a train.

On the way home from work yesterday,I rolled up to a railroad crossing not far from my workplace just as the gates went down. Those tracks are the mainline between here and Chicago, so the trains tend to travel at a fairly high speed normally, and there are 3 sets of tracks. The road itself, is just a 2 lane road.

For visual reference, I do drive a mini-van.

After I stopped I did a quick glance the clock on my dashboard to see what time it was. When I looked up, I see idiot number #1 driving through the gates coming from the other side of the tracks. Just as they clear the gate on their side, out of the corner of my eye I catch the SUV of idiot #2 coming out from behind me trying to do the same thing from my side of the tracks. They came withing about 6 inches of having a head-on collision right on the railroad tracks, with a rapidly approaching train maybe 15 - 20 seconds away. In their avoidance maneuver the car coming the other way drove off the side of the crossing, and ended up catching part of the rail in the process, but both people kept on going.

FYI: Total time for me spent waiting on the train: around 1 Minute.

you know... some people lose their minds when it comes to trying to beat a train.
and quite often the train makes sure that mind stays lost.

I don't get this one. People should have a healthy respect for a vehicle that can hit your vehicle and pretty much just have to scrape the paint and blood off.

Far too many people forget that in the end, the Universal Law of Gross Tonnage ("I'm bigger, I Win.") is the one that counts. And unless you're driving a f%*%$)g battleship, the train is ALWAYS going to win. Idiots.

And if you're driving a F#$%^& battleship, the train will win by default - because before you can get to it in order to "play", you first have to "play" against the boulders on the shore, and they'll win that round.

Depends on if the battleship captain wants to play "bridge" or not.

I like how in the article they state he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. As if that would have mattered in this case.

It indicates a level of disregard for his own safety in support of the fact that he got himself killed and it wasn't a matte of happenstance.

Playing beat the train already shows a level of disregard for one's own safety that pretty much anything else they do would be secondary.

Usually, there's a mention of it alcohol was involved or not, too.
