    This friendly reminder brought to you from the driver of that car.

      Wow. Brain derped. Never drive drunk AND text.

      I walked away with a scrape on my arm and some nasty whiplash. The paramedics were beyond amazed that I actually walked away from this without serious damage.

        Eesh! Drunk and texting?!? Talk about multiple levels of fail. That must have been pretty scary. Glad that you're alright for the most part. Hope the guy who hit you gets nailed in court! And that his insurance replaces your poor baby.

            No, this was on a road. I live off a blind curve without a light. I waited for traffic to clear, pulled out a bit to see further, and turned. Woman ripped down the road, at what my insurance is saying, 60mph+. She made 0 effort to brake, turn away, or warn me of herself. She hit me, and KEPT GOING, careening into a curb and finally stopping.

              You always hear about how the drunk driver walks away unscathed and the victim usually ends up in very poor condition. I'm glad this time that was not true. So relieved you're going to be okay.

              It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

                I'm so glad you're ok. There's no excuse for a driver to be doing any of those things, let alone all of them. I hope the courts nail her.

                  Gentle hugs to you. Please drag it out with many doctor appointements and make her insurance pay, to be absolutely sure the whiplash is healed and you don't have lasting spinal damage. I didn't, and I regret it.

                    Absolutely take every advantage of medical options. There's no reason to suffer and pay for injuries that should be covered.

                      I sure hope they don't ding you for 'making an unsafe turn' or some bull like that; she'll probably try anything to get out of trouble. They always doo.

                        I expect it.

                        She was going way over the speed limit and made no effort to stop the crash, on top of the texting and drunkeness.

                        As much as I want her to pay for EVERYTHING...

                        I'm really just glad I'm alive. ; ;

                          Maybe next time she'll do the world a favour and not see the 18 wheeler stopped at a traffic light in front of her. Fun fact: the specifications for the rear guards on trailers were written in the '70s, when cars were taller in front than they are now (and it would be VERY hard to change the specs, since too many dock locks are designed for the existing guards), so instead of a square impact with the front of the hood, it's a glancing blow partway up. 60 MPH into the back of a semi and she won't be telling her story to the judge - she'll be telling it to St. Peter.

                              Back in 1967, a movie star by the name of Jayne Mansfield was killed in a car accident when the car she was riding in ran up under the back of a truck that was spraying insecticide on a Mississippi highway.

                              The Buick sedan she was traveling in ran up underneath the back of the truck, causing the roof to crumple up. Photos taken after the crash showed the Electra looking pretty much like a crumpled up piece of Reynold's Wrap.

                              As a result of the crash, a bar was created to go straight across the back of these trailer trucks and such - it's called the Mansfield Bar.
