between being polite and annoying the ever-loving FUCK out of the line of drivers behind you.
You SHOULD let the schoolchildren cross the road safely; you should NOT wait for them to walk a half a city block to cross said road.
You SHOULD come to a complete stop at a stop sign; you should NOT stop, wave THREE other cars through, move up two feet, stop, look both ways, move up two feet, slow down, look both ways then inch through the intersection.
You SHOULD be careful not to splash pedestrians; you should NOT suddenly slam on your brakes and proceed very slowly through the puddle, nor should you veer out into the oncoming lane. NOTE: slamming on her brakes involved her going from a snail's pace to an elderly snail's pace so there was no danger of her being rear-ended unless her blind sister was following behind her and forgot which pedal was "the stoppy one."
You SHOULD take a driver's ed course or at least read the damned driver's handbook; you should NOT be allowed back on the road until you can prove that you can handle a vehicle properly.
Bonus sighting: a lady just rounded the curve and ended up on the grass on the far side - five feet from the school fence. She couldn't have been doing more than 10km/hr and she had a look of total confusion on her face. I waited for her to get waaaaay ahead of me before pulling out.
