Three out of my five genetic replicas attend the same school in the area. On occasion, I'm forced into going over to this dominion of learning for some menial task or another. That in itself is fine, but what typically greets me there is just mind numbing.
To set the scene, there are two routes into the school grounds. Well, three, but the third is parking for another wing and is not to be used by anyone but teachers and morning dropoff. The third has no bearing in this case.
The rightmost entrance swings around a small loop and contains the main walkway into the school. It's a single lane in and out, but once you hit the curb it becomes two lanes... so about midway into the loop. This second lane (and a car length beside it) follows a straight path that leads into the visitor/teacher parking and the second means of egress. Cones line the second lane and are used to orderly drop off, and pickup children. It's a good system and flows pretty well. There is only enough room at the midpoint of the loop for two cars to be side by side, one in the lane, one in the loop.
The leftmost entrance is an egress only. At one point they allowed traffic in, but they've since turned it into a left turn/right turn only out of the lot. Sadly the teachers completely ignore this and will swing in any damn way they please.
Now, the suck. Nine out of ten times when I have to run to the school it's outside of normal drop off/pickup times. The entrance to the second lane is blocked by cones. I wish I knew why, but it's just what the school does. Some assclown will inevitably park themselves in the loop and meander into the school for minutes to hours at a time. You're then forced to either sit behind them and pray they move, or play slalom and dodge the cones to get by them.
These are adults. Folks that should have figured out by now that you cannot just abandon your vehicle in the only normal pathway out of at this spot! If they were to just go another 100 feet they could park and make the world a better place. But there's always a special headcase that cannot be damned to walk that far. It should also be pointed out that there's parking on the right side of this loop that includes two handicapped spaces, so being in the way is just not a viable excuse. The remainder are all staff parking.
When I finally do get parked, I've started to take a perverse pleasure in over loudly exclaiming to the office staff that some idiot is blocking traffic again. Who knows, maybe the blame and shame will have some affect on these folks?
