  • Sucky parker is pwned by sucky parker

So, one of our guests right now recently lost one of his lower legs in a work accident (recent as in within the last few months). He doesn't have a prosthetic yet and has to hobble around on crutches. (We actually had a motorized scooter someone left here over the summer...it wasn't in great condition which is probably why it was abandoned, but it worked, and this guest was pretty stoked to get a free motorized chair from us!)

Other MOD actually sold her SUV to this guest, and he got a placard for it. There's a handicapped parking space right in front of this room. Easy peasy, right?

Last night, I saw this guest had managed to maneuver the SUV into the striped aisle beside the handicapped spot. The reason he did this was because someone else was parked in the handicapped spot, and that someone did not have a placard. Amputee Guest asked if that was okay. I told him it was fine.

I looked outside, and saw that he was parked very close to the driver's side door of the permitless parker, so I decided that yes, it was most definitely fine where he was parked. I didn't want to call anyone to complain about the permitless parker because I didn't want Amputee Guest to get in trouble for where he was parked. His parking job I figured would be justice enough. And I think perhaps it was:

Today I found out from CW that the permitless parker had the gall to actually complain about our Amputee Guest. The following is an approximate, abbreviated conversation, as told to me by CW. The permitless parker's son (PPS) was the one she was conversing with.

PPS: "Yeah, that guy is parked in what's not a parking spot!"
    CW: "Uh huh."
PPS: "My mom could barely get into her car!"
CW: "Uh huh. Does your mom have a permit for that spot?"
    PPS: "Umm..."
CW: "Because that guy there does."
PPS: "...we did see him on crutches..."
CW: "He actually has no leg. He recently lost it in an accident and doesn't have a prosthetic yet. And he has a placard for that spot."
PPS: "....I think I'll just tell Mom to go move her car..." *leaves with head hanging in shame*

Sucky parker was pwned by another sucky parker (justified under the circumstances, I do believe), and her son was pwned by CW. It was a beautiful thing.

You know, I personally believe that the amputee guest is not a sucky parker because he specifically asked if it was okay for him to park there. Since you represent the business that owns the parking lot, it is totally within your power (PIPPIN POWWAAHH!!) to allow someone to park in what is typically not a parking space.

    Therefore...

This is even more beautiful to me than before.

Unless the "sucky parker" was referring to how close he was to the other car's door, but... meh... >=)

Sounds to me like he did an excellent job of parking.

Personally, I would recommend against it. It could have lead to his vehicle getting damaged. I prefer to let the Argabargas of the world administer the justice.

That's why when I did something like that, I took a picture of the offending vehicle and its license plate. Now, I'm not eligible to park in a handicapped space, but my story is somewhat similar. One year when we went to the beach, we arrived at our motel, and there was only one parking space open. And the SUV in the space to the right was parked all stupid, so that it was partway in the open space. I just squeezed my car in anyway. It fit, but there wasn't enough room to open my passenger door. That's OK, that just meant that my wife had to come over to the driver side and come out the driver door. And once we get there, we usually don't drive again until it's time to leave.

More importantly, the fact that we couldn't open our passenger door meant that the idiot who owned the SUV couldn't open his driver door. I suppose that it was a lot easier for him to go in through the opposite door than it was for us, but it was still a small victory for me. And nothing happened to my car.

Nothing like trying to park when the other people in the lot don't know how to park straight, or stay away from the lines.

The family next to us that I mistakenly called "The North Family" (it's really more northwest) were pretty bad about it. I started parking a few cars in just to let Mrs. North have the good spot next to D's placarded spot... simply because it was one of the few spots you could almost pull straight into. Even in that spot she managed to park at an angle.

If it wasn't that, then it was her husband parked almost right on a line. The last time they had a party, I had to get out of the car before my BF parked cos they were too close to a line. But vengeance was ours cos it also meant the driver of that car had to figure out how to get back in their car.

What's both sad yet funny is that Mr. North was well known for complaining about other people's parking...

They've since moved out though. The woman there now "S" gets the spot next to D via placard (recent back surgery). But she parks straight so that's cool with me. (Besides I'd already taken to parking on the "side lot" cos I don't drive much anyway right now.)
