  • Guy passes on the shoulder and fails!

My BF & I were driving down a busy road this weekend when I saw a car behind us pull to the shoulder and motor on.

I didn't think much of it, assuming he was going to take the next right hand turn but then he kept going on... and then stopped.

That's when I realized what he was doing. Or what he'd been TRYING to do. The traffic was heavy so apparently he figured the shoulder was the best way to pass it. Well... until the shoulder tapered in.

He ended up losing his spot in line as he had to wait for traffic to let him back in.

I love seeing stuff like that. I have similar issues every morning on my way to work. No shoulder, but a 3 lane (in some places) county highway, with jughandle turns (I'm in NJ), and traffic lights. Periodically the lanes will merge from 3 down to 2 after you go through an intersection.

Even though there are three lanes, the speed limit is 50, and there’s usually enough traffic that “faster traffic only” in the left lane doesn’t really apply. I generally tend to stick to the left lane since most people don’t know how to merge nicely. I also don’t ride people’s bumpers a. since I’ve been rear ended several times and b. due to special issues and poor eyesight, I’m not comfortable being so close to the car in front of me. I can’t tell you how many times someone will come zooming up on my bumper, swerve over, and then cut back in front of me, only to be stuck behind the line of traffic I was already behind! And sometimes they will simply cut over and stay in the other lane, and I’ll come up to a light maybe 5 seconds after them, and be even with them. People are stupid.

yeah on county highways etc I don't hold with "faster traffic to the left" cos there's traffic lights & left hand turns that people make.

but in this case it wasn't even a country highway, but a busy city street. 2-3 lanes each side, traffic lights, etc. oh and yes all of the lanes were busy... which may be why this special snowflake thought he could use the shoulder to get around us all.
