Sorry for all the posts close together but these are all long ago stories, not current events.
My wife (then GF) is driving, I am in the passenger seat and I am looking into the back seat talking to my wife's friend. We are in the first lane of a three lane highway in early evening coming back after a day of skiing and a sudden snow storm has slowed the traffic and made driving a bit treacherous.
In as calm a voice as possible I tell my wife, "Hey, can you please pull into the break down lane and come to a stop?". She complies and as she is slowing down in the breakdown lane she asks me what's up. Just then the guy that I had seen coming up behind us way too fast in the middle lane, the guy I had just seen lose control of his car and spin out, shoots by us sliding down the highway ass backwards.
Wife to be: JESUS CHRIST!
Me: Yeah, that's why I wanted you to pull over.
Amazingly enough the guy skidded to a stop, still facing the wrong way on the highway, and all the cars behind him (figuratively speaking), who had been driving carefully, manage to stop. We all watch him as he does a three point turn, gets his car facing in the correct direction and pulls into the breakdown lane (no doubt to clean out his pants).
