This morning I walked down to the 7/11 to get milk. I was in no mood for much of anything really.
My partner overnight has disclosed that he is no longer able to cope with the complications and heartache surrounding our pregnancy and has decided to end our r/ship.
So I was in no mood to be talking to anyone.
I walked in, got my milk, lined up.
I was a few people back in the line, and we weren't moving. This was because of the guy at the front being served. He had an issue with his petrol pump.
SC - angry guy
PG - petrol attendant serving him
________
SC - 'Hey, just need to pay for my petrol'
PG - 'Sure, what pump are you on sir?'
SC - 'Number 15'
PG has a look on his screen, then says to the guy 'Hmmm no, no I'm sorry sir, I haven't got anything set to pump 15, that ones vacant. Are you sure it was 15?'
SC, with a big SIGH - 'Yes I'm sure, god! I'm in a rush, I'm on my way to work, just hurry up and let me pay for my petrol!'
PG - 'Ok sir I'm trying to do that but there's no car on 15. Did you want to quickly run out and check? I can hold the transaction?'
SC - 'No, I don't want to run out and bloody check nuthin', why would I do that? I put my petrol in and now I just wanna pay for it, what's so hard about that?'
PG - 'Okay sir, I'm sorry it's just that nothings showing for pump 15. I can't leave the counter unattended but if you can just describe your car to me I'll quickly bring it up on the monitor and check which pump it's at that way okay'
SC - 'IT'S BLOODY PUMP 15!'
PG - 'Sir I'm sorry but it's not. Can you describe your car to me and I can get this sorted real quick for you'
SC - 'It's a ute! It's the only ute out there! How hard is it, god! It's a white bloody ute! Can I pay now or do you not want my money?!'
PG - 'One moment sir...okay, I can see your ute...[he asks for the plate number which the SC actually gives, and it matches]...okay, I'll just put that through now. It's on pump 5 by the way sir. That'll be $34.80 thanks'
SC - 'THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS WHOLE TIME! PUMP BLOODY 5!'
PG - '....okay sir. If you say so. That's $34.80 thanks'
SC - 'No listen here mate, I told you pump 5 right from the word go and you've just wasted my time stuffing around. That's bullshit, you've cost me time and money, what are you gonna do about that eh?'
PG - 'Sir I'm sorry that this has cost you time and money but you were clearly stating pump 15, the charge is $34.80, if you'd like to settle that then you'll be able to get to work quickly'
SC - 'No, no listen here, I want to speak to your manager son, you've made me late for work with your stuff up!'
PG - I'm sorry sir the manager isn't on site this morning, it's just me attending until late this afternoon. If you'd like to leave your number I can pass it onto him and ask that he return your call?'
SC - 'No I'm not falling for that, I'll stay right where I am until he gets here and we'll get this sorted out then'
And with that, he moved to the side and we were able to check out.
He was still just standing there with his arms crossed when I left a few minutes later. I wanted to stick around and loiter just to see how long he would stay there for - after all, he was already sooo late for work, remember
- but like I said, I was in no mood at all and just wanted to go home, so I left.
