  • Hurry up!

SC is a girl in her possibly late teens early 20s. We're required to card people under 27 unless we know for a fact they are 18.

Sc walks up and asks for cigarettes
    Me: ID please?
    SC:What you mean?
Me: I need a drivers license or something to show your age.
SC: I don't have it on me.
Me: I can't sell these then.
SC: FINE (Uh oh, a girl shouting fine..) I'll go look in my car. Do you have any idea how much of a hurry I'm in?
    Me: Ok...
    A few minutes later
SC: I don't have my license. Sell them to me now. I'm in a hurry and I have to be at an important meeting in a few minutes.
Me: I can't legally sell them to you
SC: Did you not hear me? I'm in a hurry!
    Me: I'm sorry, bu-
SC: Oh who cares. I'll never shop here again. I'm going up the road (Where they probably would card her too...)

People going to important meetings always seem to have about 5 minutes to dilly dally at a gas station. Everytime without fail.

Wait, she doesn't have her license, but is driving her car? I think I'd have called the cops on that one!
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

Or any store, really. I've seen people moseying around the fabric store for hours on end, then when it's time to cut the fabric or check out, they're shouting at me to get a move on because "they're in a hurry!" Sorry, your inability to schedule yourself or keep track of time is not my fault, and I'm not going to do a half-assed job because of it.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

My reply to people like that is "believe me,
I want you out of here as quickly as possible too!"

What distresses me more than the fact that she got pissed off for being ID'd is the sheer number of stories of this type where people are driving AND DON'T HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE IN THEIR POSESSION!! I mean seriously - I never drive my car if I don't have my DL on me.

Their problem is they do have a driver's license in their possession, but it shows that they are under 18 or 21 and cannot buy cigarettes or beer. So they say they don't have it as if that will somehow enable them to buy the age-restricted product.

When it comes to M rated games or R rated movies and I ask for ID and I get shown a military ID, that's normally a good indication the person is 17 years or older since you have to be 18 to enter the military anyway or, if you're 17, have to have parental permission. Quite frankly, in my honest opinion, I really don't care who watches what or who plays what. Games and movies don't get you into LEGAL trouble like alcohol and cigarettes do, but I still card regardless.

"Your being in a hurry does not trump my need to comply with the law. Next in line, please!"

Don't you just love how because someone is in a hurry, they think you should risk your job for them?? *Sigh* I'd love to know the thought processes behind some people's actions. :S

Their thought process is simple. "I want, therefore I will get."

Yes, I'm working the tobacco register. Yes, I know it's policy to station over 21's here, so you know I can sell you the booze. Yes, I'm well aware that I look under 18 and yes, I am aware you do too. No, I will not "do you a favor as a younger looking person," and sell you the booze. See, the difference between you and me is that I have my ID on me. It's in my back pocket right alongside my debit card.. because I know I'll be carded by a CSM or an assistant manager who doesn't know me. Which I will get probably 5 minutes after you leave in a huff, because there is an assistant manager who doesn't know me by sight right behind you.

Gah, never hated anything quite as much as those who wanted booze but couldn't be arsed to bring their ID with them. And yes, one of the assistant managers was right behind the SC.. and yes, he carded me. Can't blame the AM, because one of the CSMs had a bad habit of putting under age on that register. >.<
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

Can't you get a military ID by being a codependent, though?
