Don't put my name on the room and give me a key!
Guest came down wanting a key to a room. He was not the registered guest; his significant other was.
SC: "I want a key to my room."
Me: "I'm sorry, I can only issue a key to [Wife]."
SC: "My stuff is in the room. I need a key to the room!"
So SC calls his wife. I verify her ID over the phone, and she gives me permission to issue him a key.
Me *on the phone with the wife*: "Would you like me to add him to the room so that he can get a key if he needs one in the future?"
SC *shouting over me*: "NO! DON'T ADD ME!"
Me: "Okay sir, but if you lose your key again and I'm not on shift, you won't be able to have a key issued."
SC: *storms out before I can finish my warning*
Me:
I don't want to see pets at a pet-friendly chain!
My motel is one of the largest pet-friendly chains in the US. It's one of our big selling points. Sometimes dogs will peek out windows when you walk by. It's what they do. As long as they aren't barking their heads off and being a noisy nuisance, they're allowed to stay.
Tonight, I take a call from a room.
SC: "Yeah, did you know that [Room] has a big pitbull-looking dog in their room?"
Me: "Yes I am aware. We are pet friendly, and people are allowed to have dogs in their rooms." [And I've actually become rather well acquainted with "Baby", as she is called, and she's a gentle sweetie.
]
SC: "Well, I have a pacemaker and when I walked by that dog just jumped up at me and startled me! I can't be startled like that!"
Me: "Wait, did the dog lunge at you?"
SC: "It was inside the room and it just jumped up in the window right when I walked by! I was scared! That shouldn't be allowed!"
Me: "Well...as I said, we are 100% pet friendly here and that dog is allowed in the room."
SC: "That isn't right. I'm going to be calling Corporate." *click*
Go right ahead. I'm sure Guest Services could use the laugh.
