  • Get my stuff from the bushes!!!

Long time reader, first time poster here.

As a bit of background, a lot of my stories will be things I witness but don't necessarily experience first hand. I work in surveillance for a Casino/card room (thus eye in the sky).

Anyway, yesterday, I get a call up in the surveillance room from the Pit Boss. Turns out, this guy has been calling all day (well, all day for the Casino starts around noon), wanting someone from the casino to bring his stuff into the building and hold onto it until he came to get it that night. Apparently he left a couple bags in the bushes out in front of the building, between the parking lot and the sidewalk.

Of course, because they're not idiots, no one would go get it. He'd call the Pit, Security, the Cashier's Cage, the Bar, and even the Waitress station, but all refused (it could be a liability, plus who knew what was in those bags, ie drugs, a bomb, whatever. No way in hell was anyone going to bring his crap inside and take the risk or responsibility for it.)

Anyway, Pit Boss wants me to call the cops, because he's the paranoid type, but I just called our Assistant Manager instead (She's amazing, btw). She says to tell him to pass on to everyone that we just tell this guy to stop calling and not to talk to him.

Of course, this particular Pit Boss forgets to pass it on, so the Cage and the Bar still have to deal with him more that night.

He finally came in at about 1 am to get his stuff, asked for the Cage, Bar, and Security's names and told them he was getting fired, going on about he was a customer there, and we were responsible if his stuff was damaged or stolen, and they were all disrespectful and this was a horrible way to treat customers, etc etc etc.

The general consensus is he's an idiot, and it's highly probable he'll be perma-banned from the casino, which is awesome.

Today when I got up, I talked to the surveillance manager about it, and he found out what the guy had in his bags. Candy and a present.

Kinda feel bad for whoever that was for.

    Welcome aboard!

As for the customer -- Nope. If he wanted a safe(ish) place to leave his valuables, he should have rented a room from the casino's hotel (if any) or a nearby place. He's the idiot who left his bags outside, and I feel sorry for the workers who had to put up with his continued calls!

Welcome to CS! I am 99.9% sure that the consensus on this site is that guy is an idiot too.

Why did he think that you might be responsible for something that like that??? *notices name of site* Oops silly me.

No hotel rooms, our Casino is a card room and poker room, and we have a bar and restaurant. As for his stuff, it was just two grocery bags shoved into evergreen bushes. I couldn't find them on the roaming camera, when I checked, just to see if they were there, but still it seems a bit strange.

Also, I found out later today from my boss that this was for the guy's mom. He's in his thirties, still lives at home, and I guess he didn't want her to see them. He was gonna surprise her or some such.

Gotta love the "I SPENT MONEY THERE ONE TIME SO DO EVERY SINGLE MENIAL TASK FOR ME I CAN THINK OF I AM THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON EVARRRRR" mindset.

Did he ever explain why he left stuff in the bushes?! If your place doesn't have lockers, surely there's a mall nearby that does ... or a bus station ...

Why did he even need to leave the bags anyway? Unless his mom was gambling with him...

He could've locked them in the trunk of his car. Or even asked someone at the front desk if they could've held them for him. Just stashing them in the bushes...um, yes, they've gone bye-bye, what the hell did he expect?

We don't have a front desk, really, and we won't take responsibility for people's personal possessions. We have less than ten gaming tables and only three poker tables, so it's not really all that fancy, and no way is the cashier's cage taking care of personal items.

No idea why the guy didn't just put it in his car, though.
