  • you WILL cash this check

Woman comes in to cash a check, she does not have an account. I tell her there will be a fee.

Customer: oh no there won't be a fee

Me: you could open an account

Customer: I will not open an account. You will cash this check and you will not charge a fee

    Me: I can't do that

Customer: you can and you will....go get me your manager

Manager: we're not waiving the fee unless you open an account

Customer: You will cash this check and without a fee and without an account or I'm calling the police

    Manager: you may do that

Customer stomps off, looks back at my manager

Customer: I hope you die and burn in hell, you miserable cunt

Then she bumps into a woman coming

Customer: out of the way, fat bitch

I sigh in disgust every time some "consumer advice" article or blog presents the Jedi Mind Trick as a valid negotiating technique. It. Does. Not. Work. (At least, it's not going to get the person behind the counter to do anything they wouldn't do anyway.)

The Force was not strong with this one. But I do love to listen to the SCs try.

Seriously, why do the consumer advice people ALWAYS insist that's the best way to get what you want? No, more than half the time, it WON'T get you what you want. It just labels you as an entitled bitch and very rapidly reduces the likelihood that the wage slaves you're speaking to will do anything beyond the absolute minimum.

But did she use the hand gestures too? BEcause if she didn't, that's why it didn't work..

Also, using a Mind Trick probably requires the user to have a mind in the first place...

That was my first thought too.

OMG, you should have come back with this! It would've been priceless! (Assuming your management folks have a sense of humour, that is.)

I do find it terribly amusing that she thought she could manipulate people working at a bank where she didn't even have an account

I think Mooncat's right about that. Either that or SC thought that service people have weak minds.
