  • She fought the law, and the law won!

Hilarious. XD This happened about a week ago. This girl came into the petrol station and asked to buy twenty packs of Superkings. She was about twenty and was of course IDed and had some ID. Then she produced a card to pay, but it looked weird. She said to key in the number saying that the chip was busted, and my collegue and I smelled a rat. My collegue slipped away to call the police.

Anyway, I managed to delay her by saying that I had to go to the store cupboard to get the cigarettes and the police arrived and nabbed her. Basically, the card was stolen, and they soon took her away. XD Basically, the girl was on the police most wanted list and they'd been after her for ages. So it was pretty stupid of her to keep using that card.

If they've been looking for her for ages and she kept using the card but couldn't catch her, I guess she had no reason to suspect she'd ever get caught.

Most places have a hands off policy.. even if handed a fake id, check, cash all you are allowed to do is decline the sale and give the bad documents back WITH an apology.

Which is amusing as, with at least the cash, it's illegal to do so.

Grats on nabbing her, Lace and Coworker!

Plus there are some places round where I live where the staff would just accept the card, no questions asked. Not being racist or anything, but the other petrol station is staffed with non English people who have taken the odd dodgy card.

Not in the UK where OP is. The money is still the property of the customer, until payment is accepted.

You mean in the UK it's legal to give counterfeit money back to the person and not call the cops?

I was always told you had to retain the money. For example, at the pizza place, a guy tried to palm me off with a fake tenner. I kept it and told him it was fake so couldn't be payment, and I couldn't give it back. He swore at me and stomped out.
