We close at 6pm on Sundays. It was at least 6:05 when I went out the door.

A grouchy old bag tried to get in through the out door as I was leaving, so I told her we had closed at 6.

Her response: It's only 5:57 BY MY WATCH.

Me: Sorry ma'am, the store time isn't set by your watch, we are closed.

I refused to let her push past me and made sure the door locked behind me so she couldn't get in. Stupid biatch.

Ugh I worked at a gym once and we opened at like 5:15 AM.... and somedays at 5:10 people would be banging on the doors..... listen first of all I think you're crazy to be exercising at this time (I guess it's good they are exercising at all but still no way would I be exercising at 5:00 AM), secondly - I don't have to deal w/ your suckiness for another 5 minutes and I'm going to take my time........ 1) b/c I have to set things up and make sure we're ready to open and 2) b/c I don't want to let you in any sooner than I have to...
i figure that anyone up at that hour is not likely to be forgiving if you're late opening. they're working out in the middle of the night because that's the only time they have.

so i'm understanding if they're POed if the gym isn't open exactly when it supposed to be open.

it's the people who bang on the locked door of stores when they could easily go to a 24-hour store who really piss me off.

We open at 9am, and I had people sat outside at 7am on a December morning. They would chap on the window.

SC: Please let us in! Its freezing out here!
Me: I'm sorry we don't open for two hours.
SC: We wont order anything! We just want to sit in the warmth.
Me: No, I would get fired.
        SC: Please!
Me: No, I have too much to do.

I walk away, and yup, they hung around out there for TWO hours in below zero temperatures. Yeah, like I was going to start dealing with customers two hours before I had to!

Auto, you took the words right out of my mouth (or.....errr keyboard).

I understand that SCs were really, I mean really, devoted to the gas station I worked at.......but I mean honestly, if they knew SO much about that store, they'd know the hours of operation. They truly would. And they wouldn't feel the need to try and push their limits with employees other than the manager. None of us were her, and none of us were going to bend rules for customers.

There was a Holiday right DOWN THE FARKING street! I mean, a few BLOCKS! 24/7 store! I know that the Holiday wasn't their precious Gas N Go, but they had cheaper cigarettes and most of the time, they lowered their gas before my store did.

There's a 24/7 store right down the street, there is no reason to pull up to a pitch black store and pound on the windows and demand to be let in after closing or before opening.

People do that at the bookstore all the time. Store2 has a cafe, and people would show up really early sometimes, assuming we'd be open just because of the cafe. Funny thing is, there's a Starbucks 2 lights down the highway, and they sell the same damn stuff and they open at 5 or 6!

Store1 has a Starbucks attached, but they open at 6 and BN opens at 9. There is a gate between the 2 stores, so at least people who come early don't have to stand outside (unless they're stupid...a lot of people stand outside..hmm...).

I had a woman once yelling at me cuz it was a couple minutes after 9 and we hadn't opened the gate, because the manager was still in the back and had the key. The woman is bitching that she'd been waiting for 15 minutes and I wanted to say, So? Why the hell did you show up 15 minutes before the store opens? I told her someone would be up in a minute to open the gate, or she could go out and walk the 30 yards to the front door. (ok, I didn't quite phrase it like that.) I guess she decided she'd rather bitch. Oh, and she had to get to work and she needed to pick up her book that she ordered. So finally she gets in, I give her her book, and she wanders away with it. Half an hour later I saw her strolling out of the store, and she didn't even buy the book. !!!!

At some Lowe's stores (not sure if HD does this or not) they allow contractors to come into the store to shop up to a hour before the store opens. The idea behind this was to let them get in and get out without all the hassle and get to work early.

Our store was not one of those stores. Our customers reminded us of this every time they came to the door tapping on the window with keys wanting let in.

You know what's strange? We opened an hour late this morning and no one complained. (I got a call this morning half an hour after we were supposed to open, my boss was about two hours away, and my coworker, thinking that he had the evening shift today, was still on his way back from Kirkland and wouldn't be back until two, and I live about a twenty minute walk from the restaurant. I got called in.)

                  post office line

I live near a post office which opens at 9am. Every Monday and Thursday, there is a massive queue outside when I leave for work. At 7.30am.

                  Why??? people!
As a former postal employee I can probably shed a little enlightenment here. Those same people you see are probably "caller services" people. Businesses that have P. O. Boxes there that have their mail separated and waiting for them at the window. At the post office I worked at, we had to have caller service mail ready by 7 am, while regular boxes were to be ready by 8 am.

In the city I live in, we have only one supermarket downtown, its a locally owned place and basically family run. Its also been around for like 80 years and its very friendly/casual inside.

They recently started opening at 9am (they moved to a newer building a few doors down a month or so ago) but now stay open 4 hours later everynight. I was down there the in the morning killing time before work and standing there waiting until it opened. A guy was RANTING about how it now opened at 9 now and how dare they and what an inconvience and this should be illegal ???

The store manager (read owner) came to let in a couple of employees at like 8:59 and this guy pushed on the door as the SM was closing it, they argued, the with the guy saying "its close enough just let me in, im in a hurry" SM said back "Sir im going to let them at least set down there hand bags and get there coats off! One more minute wont kill you!" shut the doors and walked off.

The guy was like CAN YOU F***ING BELIEVE THIS S**T!!!!! and started pounding on the doors....

I told my boss and she was like "what bad customer service"... I thought to myself... um kettle, heres the pot! She is one of the RUDEST CSR's I have ever met!

Have you noticed that "bad customer service" is usually a translation of "did not bend over backwards and slave over the customer's every demand"?

When I used to work at Borders on a Sunday morning customers would stand outside 15 mins before we opened checking their watches and sighing.

That would make sense at the PO behind my house, but the one just up the street is where the queues are. Monday and Thursday are benefit payout days in these parts.

                            Bad customer service!?
This guy's lucky that the cops weren't called. An irate man pounding on the windows of a closed business, cursing his head off? Sounds potentially violent to me. Not to mention, he then tries to force his way in when the door is opened a crack! That's trespassing at least, B&E at worst.
My sister had one guy like that at the restaurant. They called the cops, and he was hauled away.

Yeah, um, tell the old SCs from the gas station that it's considered dangerous to pound on doors and curse and shake fists at the employee refusing them entrance. It was their way of trying to "Reason" with me.

At my bank, we open at 9 am, so I was to work at drive up. Then at 8:45 am, a car was just sitting there at drive up, staring at us while I was doing my normal routine. Suddenly, I hear the bell ring so I turned on the speaker, the SC asks me if the tube was working, then i tell him that we don't open til 9 am. I mean, come on!
