Two days ago I had my bike stolen. I probably could have prevented it if I was more firm about who could be in my lobby. So I'm determined to be more strict.
This morning at 4 we had someone come in and start to use the computer. I asked him that since he came in from outside if he was a guest. He of course said he was. I asked him his room number. He tells me a room number that is out of order.
He then says he might be mistaken about the room but his friend Gloria is staying with us. No Gloria is registered. So he says he has to get a hold of his friend to find out. I allow him 10 minutes.
11 minutes later our Internet "mysteriously" craps out. After orchestrating the outage, I go and see how he's doing. Still no luck and no reply by text.
Every 10 minutes I checked how it was going. Finally at 5 I told him that he's welcome back once he knows who's staying here with. He stubbornly refuses. I tell him he has a choice. Either he can leave on his own or cops can escort him out. He questions why I would need the cops. I tell him I shouldn't. But whether I call them is entirely his choice.
He gets up to leave and goes down the hall. I wait before going down the other. I do a quick security walk and pass him on the 3rd floor. I head back to the desk to check the monitor to see if he goes in a room.
He actually goes out a side door but props it open with a rock. I wait until he's out of sight and go shut the door firmly. Luckily I don't see him the rest of my shift.
What I like about this weather is you can tell who's legit because they come down in street clothes and you'd have to be crazy to be outside in this weather without a coat.
