The fabric/craft store where I work just finished a massive remodel (We were open the entire time. It was awful.) and we had our "grand reopening" this past weekend, so I have some assorted tales of suckiness from the past few days.
Coupon Hell
If I have to argue with one more customer about coupons I am going to scream.
Last week we gave out a set of 3 coupons to customers, each coupon good for one specific day. The number of people who have tried to use Thursday's coupon on Friday, Friday's on Saturday, etc. is astronomical. Look, I know you probably thought they were all good for the entire weekend but they aren't so I don't know what to tell you. My computer will not let me scan them in and like hell am I manually adjusting the price for you.
The worst were the people who got four or five of these fliers, got pissed off when I told them they couldn't use all five coupons at once (the coupon codes are identical so the computer will only accept 1 per transaction) and then demanded that I do five separate transactions for them. How about no.
Jump through hoops for me... so I can then not buy anything
Had a lady come in, wanted two or three different fabrics plus boning and some trim, so probably 5-6 items specially cut all told. And she wanted us to basically hold her hand while she found everything, give us her opinion on every thing she picked up, etc.
Then she realized that her coupon was expired, demanded one from us (we typically don't have any in store), and then wanted all of her items put on hold for a week (!!!) so she could come back when a new coupon kicked in. Thanks for wasting all of our time.
A charitable donation
Woman came in, obviously in a hurry, wants a ton of tulle cut, gets pissy when they're ringing up at different prices because she bought more expensive tulle than she thought she did but she's in too much of a rush to go get something cheaper. Ends up throwing money at me, storming out with her fabric before I've even bagged it, and yells at me to keep the change she doesn't want it.
So my manager had me add the about $8 to the little donation containers we keep near the registers
Misc. minor sucks
-I hate clearance fabric. It's a nightmare to keep it organized and people rip tags off all the time. If it's not on a bolt and doesn't have a tag we can't ring you up for it because we don't know how much it is, don't yell at us or we'll arbitrarily charge you $15/yard for it.
-Read. The goddamn. Sale signs. Only one type of fleece is 70% off, don't scream at us because you picked up a different type and aren't getting the sale price.
-The free bags were for the first 50 customers. It is now 4pm. You don't seriously think you're getting one, do you?
...of course you do. Why am I not surprised? And bracing myself for more screaming now...
