I took this phone call the other day.
Me: *standard spiel*
SC: "Yeah, I called and left a couple messages the other day and also sent a few emails but no one has gotten back to me. I wanted to see about getting a $99 rate for July. You used to do that all the time and I was hoping to get it again. Can you see if you can get that rate for me?"
Note: Our starting rates for our most basic room in July are typically $250-$280 range, depending on the date. That's for the most basic, no-frills, no-view room we have, so I'm thinking hell no.
Me: "I'm sorry, I can't authorize a rate that low."
SC: "Is there a manager I can talk to?"
Me: "He's not in but I can take a message."
SC: "I've left messages already but okay, we'll try it."
I looked up the SC's history. I found one reservation from way back in 2000 that was $99. She also stayed once in 2013 right after we reopened (after being closed for one year) and were offering fantastic we're-reopen-please-come-back-really-we're-begging-you deals, where she paid $190 for a room and sizeable meal credit. So yeah, not much consistent customer history there.
I asked my manager about her.
Manager: "Oh yes, I know her. As soon as I saw the name I knew who it was before I even opened the email. I've had a couple conversations with her already about the same thing. I told her we didn't have that rate and told her we were offering other rates now."
Me: "Really? She said she's called and left messages and no one's gotten back to her. She's a liar!"
Manager: "I know, can you imagine?"
